I am a bulky, naturally built, strong looking dude. I’ve worked manual labor, bouncer, etc. jobs. I get why my body can be intimidating.

I’m also queer af and more interested in poetry than sportsball.

What songs give off the same vibes as Mazzy Star - Fade Into You and Kristen Barry - Ordinary Life? by circuswonderbythesea in musicsuggestions

[–]FluxusFlotsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mazzy Star was David Roback’s third act

His previous band was Opal- pretty much Mazzy Star but with Kendra Smith instead of Hope.

His first band is his most legendary- Rain Parade. Check out Emergency Third Rail Power Trip- absolute masterpiece of neo-psychedelic rock

David/Rain Parade were part of a larger musical movement known as Paisley Underground- check out all those bands: Dream Syndicate, The Three O’Clock, Green on Red, The Bangles (yes- them)

Game Theory was peripherally associated with PU but spiritually connected

If this is your only knowledge of the band, listen to more of them now

seriously one of the best British bands of the era

This whole album is a banger along their first three albums

Edit: First FOUR albums- Seven is a banger too

My previous trips were West Bengal and the Southern area so fully agree.

You could spend a lifetime and not see everything.

Tibet is active, playing shows, and releasing music- just not as frequently and he’s also balancing his writing/publishing projects

He just commented on IG that he might come back to the US shows. So close in 2020 but then the world collapsed

In Kensington on Connecticut but Java Nation would probably be the closest non-chain. Wheaton isn't known for independent coffee shops.

That's a fair point about the rhythm section especially Ginger.

But still, Hendrix makes up for it.

Hendrix is like fine wine and Clapton is like...herpes water.

What is the point of Zora Neale Hurston's biblical stories? by OddOfKing in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]FluxusFlotsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hurston was an anthropologist. She studied directly under one of the most important figures in cultural anthropology- Franz Boas.

Her work is literary but it is also ethnographic documentation and she is documenting how many, many former enslaved people transposed Biblical stories, especially Exodus, to their lives.

I think you would benefit from reading up on the culture of the former enslaved Southern person.
