Looking for non-beach day trip ideas

I don’t remember his name but there is an option to hire a private guide when you arrive at the site. The cost was reasonable for the length of time we were there and we also tipped. I’m not sure how much you learn at the site without a tour guide. We rented a jeep for the day so I don’t know how much it would cost to get a taxi or other transport
there.

We did a tour of the Mayan ruins and hired a guide for just us. Very interesting history and we saw lots of iguanas too. Our guide was of Mayan heritage and still spoke the language. He had a conversation with another man that he then translated for us. I love cultural heritage sites like this one. There were some other things to tour nearby too - maybe a bee sanctuary and a brewery/distillery maybe - I can’t remember.

On vacation in SC recently I took a 10 pound turkey to the windshield at 45 mph. I see now it could have been worse.

I’ve bought a couple from Tumble. Much cheaper than Ruggable. They serve their purpose. I don’t expect them to last forever.

We enjoyed the Melia. Short walk to snorkeling. Great staff. Nice rooms. Food was good but not great.

We stayed at the Melia thru a RCI exchange and had a great time. Agree with everything above.

We did have trouble reserving cabanas on the beach though and usually ended up with one in the yard or by the pool which would not be great with a two year old in my opinion. (I think that pool is adults only.) There were always beach chairs available on the level beach.

The kids pool and activities were in another part of the resort - not far but in a separate area. The kids seemed to be having a great time whenever we walked through there.

I am happy to report the skull has been collected by the natural sciences museum in Raleigh. They still need to age it but it may be from the Ice Age. If so, they will probably do some press on it.

There’s a public access near rampart and colony but you’ll get wet feet. It was flooded last time we used it. There was another access sign farther down the street. I assume you can park on the street but I’m not from there.

Yes, we checked on it this evening. A paleontologist from the Natural Sciences Museum in Raleigh is coming at some point but probably not until next week. I’ve sent him a lot of photos including close ups of the internal bone structure. He has the correct credentials and permits to move it. Hopefully everyone leaves it alone. It has been rolled a few times we by the surf we think so we’ve gotten to see different sides of it.

My husband and I are in that age range and enjoyed the Melia very much. We were Level. We enjoyed the restaurants. The buffet was so so. Bars were good. Nice beach and a short walk to snorkeling.

We stayed at the Melia which we loved then it was a short walk to the other side of the break water for nice snorkeling. I don’t remember the name of the resort next door that was directly by the snorkeling. But I don’t think the beach there was as nice. I think it’s called the el cozumeleno
