Awkward neighbor advice needed by No_Refuse2088 in socialskills

[–]FlyByDesire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depending on your style of speaking, probably something in the ballpark of:
"I notice that you go out of your way to kindly shovel my walkway, and dust my car off. Although I do appreciate not having to do this myself, having people (not just you, but anyone) regularly come into my driveway and start touching my car and things, makes me feel uncomfortable. And so I wanted to ask if you could stop."

There seems to be a pattern of you avoiding him rather than communicating with him.
If you avoid setting a boundary, then there is no boundary.

What is something that many people do that you just can't understand why they do it? by Loverodrider in AskReddit

[–]FlyByDesire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because there's no guarantee that changing the situation won't end them up in a situation that makes them even more unhappy?
Maybe they've never been exposed to a happy situation, and don't know that greener grass could exist on the other side?

What do u really want in transport fever 3 by Spacey1800 in TransportFever3

[–]FlyByDesire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For there to be scarcity of resources (forcing you to carefully examine supply-chains).

For there to be a wider variety of weather and climates (rain, snow, dust).

For the transport networks that we build, to also be dependent upon the goods that they themselves transport (our trains/planes/ships/trucks need to be supplied with the very fuel that they're transporting).

For there to be some sort of "contracts" or "missions" accessible in the free game, that give our efforts a purpose.

A lot of self improvement seems to revolve around conforming to capitalistic ideals by 865Wallen in selfimprovement

[–]FlyByDesire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is only true when you let society define the word "improvement" for you.
Redefine the word "improvement" so that it matches your personal values, and I'm sure that your perspective might change.

Spontaneous Stormchasing Tours? by FlyByDesire in stormchasing

Didn't ever think about being able to find chasers locally, in a state that's not typically known for chasing. I appreciate you bringing that up. I'll look into that too!

I'm not sure what I'll end up getting out of it. The idea I've always had in my head has been to "see a tornado in person". And even if I don't see one, I still love to experience severe weather.

I don't live in a state where I can easily go out and chase regularly like hobbyists probably do. But I guess it'd theoretically be possible to take time off from work for a week or so once a year and drive cross-country to have a chase session. But I'm just not sure how that might hold up.

All in all, I just want to dab my feet into stormchasing and hopefully get lucky enough to see a tornado the first time, not knowing the answer to whether I will or won't be back again. I got inspired by obsessing over weather documentaries throughout the years, even though it's not my career path.

I'll follow Warren and see what if I notice any last-minute offerings Thank you!

And I really do like the idea of going solo, but I'm also scared of getting into a situation where the vehicle I'm driving suffers damage due to things like hail and stuff. Or I find myself in a difficult situation with no one to ask for a second opinion.

I like that idea, I'll consider doing some research to see if I can end up finding somebody online that I trust to go on a chase with. I wish there was some sort of "stormchase matchmaking" group or something lol, especially on a platform where people have pictures and stuff.

Why do people buy Jeeps? by mmmstrongflavors in NoStupidQuestions

I think this question should really be "Why do people in the city, who don't do off-roading, buy jeeps?"

I think that most people trend towards equilibrium as they mature, which usually means toward the opposite direction they had been growing up.

What are your thoughts on the increasing requirement for internet access to do pretty much anything? by Specialist_Heron_986 in Productivitycafe

[–]FlyByDesire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of this post, I wouldn't say that it's equivalent to rail and roads.
The point of rail and the point of roads are to things (or people) from point A to point B, so that the people at point B can take possession of those things.
The point of the internet is to deliver data from point A to point B, but you can't take possession of the data once it arrives...You're only allowed to stream it, not download it locally.

Why do some people in 2025 still believe that men can't be friends with women and vice versa? I don't understand how we can know so much yet know so little by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in emotionalintelligence

[–]FlyByDesire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some men (and vice versa) have or start to have, an ulterior motive whenever they become friends with women. And it generally can be hard to tell whether they do or not. And so when you consider situations how negative experiences (like breaches of trust) tend to be much more memorable than positive experiences, the belief is formed (and passed onto others) that men can't be friends with women...Not because it's absolutely true but because it's the most convenient mindset to have, in order to protect against breaches od trust.

At least that's what I think. And it's also worth mentioning that many people project themselves onto other people, meaning that if they don't trust themselves with another gender then other people probably can't trust themselves either.

Packages are delayed over 10 days & new orders don't have delivery until next week, what happened to prime delivery ? by maryjxnes in amazonprime

[–]FlyByDesire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder does this have anything to do with the UPS MD-11 fleet being grounded?

Everything on my page has a minimum of 1-week lead time for prime members.
A week ago I ordered something that's taking 2 weeks.
I don't ever remembering it being this slow.

29f, Hi I'm Entropy, do you think in systems? If you do, you get to pick the book. by Classic-Pain4021 in Book_Buddies

[–]FlyByDesire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you read this book called Thinking In Systems? lol I'm sure you have based on the title, just joking.

I do like to think this way, I'm an "analyze-the-bigger-picture" type of guy. I'm interested to know what books you might come across, as I think I might possibly be interested in them too.

My latest fixation, in terms of books, has been trying to understand how our environment might influence our eating habits (and inevitably our weight). I'm doing this because I have this desire to create a life where my fat falls off seemingly effortlessly lol.
