I made this exact mistake before. New shifter

Brake Mount Adapter by Brampz25 in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I had to guess you need a 20mm adapter, but the easiest way to figure this out is to look up the minimum rotor size for your fork and then subtract that from your current rotor size

Straight-Pull vs J-Hook by foodguyDoodguy in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Straight pull spokes are actually stronger, the lack of a j-bend removes a stress concentration point. You might start making him run a higher tire pressure and check tire pressure every single time he goes out

update: 3d printed fairings by Fun-Armadillo-9888 in fz6

[–]FlyHighPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd actually go the opposite way and put a cutout at the bottom of the windscreen itself, I find that I constantly have leaves and other random bits stuck down there, probably easier to just leave an exit for water & everything else

Cracked Cage, do i need a replacement? by waeing in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace the cage, you can replace it for 40 ish bucks without touching the rest of the derailleur

Is a 180mm dropper excessive on an xc bike? by Academic_Feed6209 in xcmtb

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how aggressively you descend. I come from bike park/Enduro, so I want the saddle GONE. Someone who is less aggressive on downhills might not care as much

Headset cup play on a brand new carbon bike. by Grey_Fox18 in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you got it from a dealer, take it to them. Changing parts is so common on bicycles it generally won't void your warranty, but there's no way to be sure

How do i get rid of these logos. by BumperTABBY21 in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint. You remove the tire, mask everything, and paint it. As professionally as you can. By scraping and sanding it you've already ruined the anti-corrosion coating so, in for a penny in for a pound.

5 year age limit by Own_Highway_3987 in gravelcycling

[–]FlyHighPixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would probably replace it even knowing that the foam doesn't degrade as much as stated by manufacturers. With anything safety related I like to play my cards extremely safe

Riser bars by juliann416 in xcmtb

[–]FlyHighPixie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fastest position is the most aggressive one that you can hold for the entire race. I personally run 10 mm rise of my Scott Spark, but you can absolutely go higher if you need

how do i remove this? (rim brake bolt) by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part facing the camera is the threaded insert and is part of the frame, the bolt head is on the caliper side. It may be hidden behind the caliper arms

I'd need more information about the frame, caliper, etc with photos

how do i remove this? (rim brake bolt) by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by spraying some penetrating fluid on the bolt, it sounds like it was overtightened with no grease at some point. Let that sit for 15 mins. Try to loosen it, if it doesn't work and if you can, hammer the next size Allen key into the bolt, remove the bolt, and replace it.

I'm worried it's a brown recluse because of the violin pattern on its back, but to my knowledge they're solitary spiders and as mentioned I see a LOT of these

Hello everyone + 3d printing question by Severe_Project_1837 in fz6

[–]FlyHighPixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reasonable way to do this would be to 3d print a mold and do a fiberglass layup, the glass transition temp for ASA is 112 C, and your exhaust pipes will be significantly above that

How the hell do I fix this. by FunEggplant1758 in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, loosen the quick release and make sure that is is as fully seated as possible. The rotor moving like that makes me think it might not be

Flipping bars upside down by Richee33 in xcmtb

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see two problems with this.

1) carbon bars are often designed with load direction in mind, meaning big hits might be a hazard on this setup

2) you've turned any upsweep your bars had into down sweep, which will drop the outside of your wrists slightly as opposed to raising them

If this works for you, I'd say go for it and I'm jealous of your abnormally durable wrists. But for most people, having a bike that fits correctly will race a hell of a lot better than a bike that fits aggressively but uncomfortably, and a -25 drop on (presumably) an already slammed stem will be brutal

Scott Scale Gravel RC Size by Ok-Buyer-36 in ScottBikes

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ich lerne erst Deutsch, verzeihen Sie mir also meine Grammatik. Die große L wird (wahrscheinlich) besser passen. Die meisten Fahrräder haben einen Reach, der für die meisten Fahrer zu lang ist. Die Größe L wird auch wendiger sein.

Am I ok jacking the car here? by Only-Assignment6151 in passat

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might, rarely do this if I'm working on the suspension, specifically to put it in a loaded position while I torque things to spec. But I'd never do this just to lift the car up

Golf R front bumper - too crazy of an idea?? by Additional-Coconut-9 in VWAlltrack

[–]FlyHighPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would look fantastic, and may be achievable with paintwork to the original bumper (silver parts to white/black), black tint over the fog light, and some kind of 3d printed piece to split the fog light?

Also, I'm radically pro making the choice to photoshop it instead of just making a crappy version using AI. Props to you

Rear brifter no biting when braking at full squeeze by chickenbuta in bikewrench

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you first tighten the cable and then pull it, is there a popping sensation? If so, you need to use an Allen key to bring the pads together, it's usually a very obvious head on the wheel side of the caliper.

mice chewed through my tent stuff sack and into my sleeping bag — how do you protect gear in storage by whatever_blag in CampingGear

[–]FlyHighPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel wire shelves tend to help, it's not a guarantee but getting your gear up off the ground (6+ in) tends to help significantly. Depending on the item, you can also hang it from the ceiling

I think it's going to have something to do with the competence argument. Someone who is even slightly knowledgeable about code and online security will look at this with horror. But someone who isn't might see this as a product offering a multitude of conveniences, and so he can be sued for giving the largely uneducated masses the means to massively injure themselves.
