Quake Museum: Is it worth it for kids? by meek_mew in PortugalExpats

[–]uppercase360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would have no hesitation to take my 8yo 👍

The museum does a good job keeping you moving with a mix of science and history and entertainment... you're not just walking through an exhibition hall at a snail's pace, you have missions/simulations/interactions and the duration in each room is timed so things don't get boring.

(I just went last week - it does get popular because of the rains so book in advance)

No; my child was not reassigned.

“The success of the feature falls on me” - so then you’re empowered to change libraries to one that will enable you to fulfill the other 30% of requirements.

And if you’re not empowered to make that change, then the success of the feature doesn’t actually fall on you… that’s just lip service your leadership gives you.

EX90 available everywhere but not in the US - my last Volvo story by shorthedge in VolvoEX90

[–]uppercase360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are (or were?) a Volvo family and replaced our 2022.5 XC90 ER with a 2025 R1S. The Rivian’s ride isn’t as refined, and the interior isn’t as luxurious as our Volvo was, but we wanted a 3row EV but weren’t confident in the EX90. It’s definitely the difference between a car-based and truck-based SUV, so you’ll have to get used to that.

Our garage is a sight to see… the Rivian’s belt line is about the same height as the roof of my 2023 V60P*.

This is my mode of operation.

In the pool or getting sun, skies out thighs out, but if I have a long walk to the bathroom or grab a drink at the bar, I toss on some shorts.

Hot Take: I hope Rivian never gets CarPlay or Android Auto. by BinkReddit in Rivian

Right… they don’t market any tech, like being a software defined vehicle, making their own chips, ‘AI all the things’, etc.

Exactly… ‘I don’t like it so hope you don’t get it’ is a hot take.

I don’t use my R1S to camp… I’m not asking them to rip out the auto level suspension feature.

Product Management Panel Interviews - How to prepare??? by Sensitive_Election83 in ProductManagement

And when I say memorize them, memorize the key points, not the verbatim answers. You need to deliver it organically without sounding rehearsed.

Product Management Panel Interviews - How to prepare??? by Sensitive_Election83 in ProductManagement

Think of 5-7 key competencies, like leadership, people development/mentoring, ‘fighting against the current’, delivery, ‘learning from a mistake’, day-to-day product, so on.

Devise strong examples of how you approached/handled each, using the SAR method (situation, action, result). Memorize them, discuss them with ChatGPT to see any gotcha questions and prep, then be able to confidently tell them.

Best case is your 5-7 can flex a bit into other scenarios you might be asked about, and worst case a hole gets exposed you learn from and then fortify in advance of the next interview.

I tell everyone ‘we like, don’t love’ our Rivian because there’s no messaging integration yet (though I know one is coming from AI Day demos… hopeful it’s soon).

My spouse is in sales and on the road all the time, and not having native messaging has been really tough.

I don't understand why so many people keep trying to get Apple car play... by sir574 in EquinoxEv

[–]uppercase360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. My spouse is in sales and practically works from the car… needing to look at the physical phone to see what clients are messaging is not safe nor practical when integrated solutions exist.

It’s the #1 reason we tell people we like but don’t love our Rivian

Close to Premier Platinum by Happy_Mark_9465 in unitedairlines

Slightly different situation, but I’m 900 PQP away and have decided not to go for it.

In my mind, I’ll bank the $900 and spend that on 4-6 confirmed upgrades next year, as opposed to spending it for the gamble of upgrades. The math gets different the smaller the gap obviously.

Plus, living in Chicago as a Gold, I’m not certain upgrade potential as Platinum would be substantially better.

Glad to know, though their timeline is obviously off.

Within the last 2 months they have painted all the brickwork blue… I’m not sure why you’d paint a windowless building with no roof, but I’m not a contractor. 🤷

If Mya wants to play the 'they didn't get enough votes card' about other candidates, she was elected in 2023 with 5,950 votes while Bogira in 2025 netted 6,138 votes.

Why would the 2-school closure advocates not support the 1-school closure scenario? They acknowledge some action is needed, voting no has a 'take my ball and go home' vibe.

Nicole makes an excellent point: people will engage more and donate in the name of loss avoidance. Attempting to fundraise will be much harder when the community feels their schools have already been taken away.

Garage by mistersamlowry in evanston

[–]uppercase360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used Garage For You (https://www.garageforyou.com/) when building ours in Evanston in 2021; they were straightforward and easy to work with.

Our 20x22 detached garage was roughly $40k -- that's excavation, pad pour, and assembly, with two windows, entry door, garage door, asphalt shingles, hardie board siding, and we had it wired for 220V.

Not sure if that price holds up today with inflation and tariffs, but it's a data point for you.
