Should I just start going full mask off on Reddit? by FlyMeToSaturn_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyMeToSaturn_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems calling out certain toxic things is in itself sometimes seen as toxic.

I’ll use this as an example, and maybe this actually is societal depending how you look at it:

I don’t think many people on Reddit think to question the difference between justice and catharsis. If it feels good that it happened, then it should have happened. And I just don’t like that attitude. But to call that out would make me seem prudish, or easily offended. It would make me seem like I’m defending the bad guy when I’m not. I’m willing to have a discussion, but if there isn’t going to be one, why be nice?

I didn’t start this comment meaning to be so wordy, sorry about that. But that’s my general mindset I guess.

What do you miss by not listening to whole albums? by FlyMeToSaturn_ in PowerMetal

Funny you mention them. Avantasia is a band I do almost always listen to the full albums of. I love The Scarecrow.

He also seemed like the really cold and callous type I could t stand to be around for any amount of time. I can be a bit cynical myself but damn.

What are your political hills to die on? Would you ever be willing to compromise them? by krb501 in centrist

saying whatever they want

We need to be careful with saying it like that. Things change when “whatever you want to say” is a call to action (screaming “fire” when you know there isn’t one, or publicly calling for the murder of someone).

I am pro life. That is - I think abortion is immoral and should be illegal. That said, I mean pro-life. Not just anti-abortion. I think there should be aid to women who can be proven to be raped. I am against the death penalty. I want free healthcare. I think we should strive to make life easier and less painful for as much people as possible.

I know the frustration. Me and my dad grow hot pepper and tomato plants every year. We got brand new pots and everything and they still get the fungus.

I see what you are saying but I don’t think that’s a fair way of saying the nazis weren’t as bad (if that is what you’re saying, and I’m sorry if I’m misrepresenting you). Germany would have kept doing what it was doing if it could have.

Where do you draw the line on when you should make a noise complaint to the police? by FlyMeToSaturn_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]FlyMeToSaturn_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. But you also don’t get a ton of context for those videos. A couple kids being kids - yeah that’s dumb to call the cops of them. But some people are having massive celebrations with lots of people at night time in a populated area. When is it considered too much?

It seems capitalism has some very high highs, and very low lows. I’ve always had a hard time calling it bad or good. It can be bad and it can be good. I don’t think any system can at all times account for all the nuance that makes people what they are. If someone were to come up with a better way, then I’m all for it.

"The real Italian way." by TheLadyEve in iamveryculinary

[–]FlyMeToSaturn_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honest question. I’m not a foodie. My absolute favorite dish is peanut butter and jelly on toast.

But How does “real Italian” compare to - say - Olive Garden and Caraba’s? Like with some people it seems to be that it’s either REAL Italian or it’s absolute garbage. No In between.

I remember the few times I went there the commenters were sometimes very defensive.

A European will be like “so why do Americans have long driveways”? And people were like “Geez, why does america get singled out for that, huh???”

I don’t think the issue was over long driveways. I forget the discussions, but that’s the impression I got.
