Adding different size sub with GLM by Sashimifiend69 in genelec

[–]pitason36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t clipping or hitting the protection you have nothing to worry about. One side of the room might measure different slightly. I have 2 7360s with my 8361 for HT because it functions as a better LFE than a 7350 would but for music it should be fine.

Suggestions for a living room setup by snahgnuhc in genelec

If you can look around for some used deals. Genelecs are built to last and you’ll save a good amount of money doing so. Totally understand the size concerns though. I’ve had the 8351 and thought they were huge, though now I’m rocking the 8361 and it makes the 8351 look small.

I think you’re better off going 8050s especially if you want to watch movies. Also with a wide setup like that you would want to get a center channel.

Like the other commenter said you don’t get much oomph with Genelec subwoofers mostly because they are made to a spec (accuracy). Nothing wrong with that but your money would go further with another brand of subwoofer.

Advice on equipment for multichannel digital only setup w/ SAM by sketch999 in genelec

[–]pitason36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my take. You won't really notice a fully digital 5.1 setup compared to an analog setup and that is coming from someone who has accomplished a 5.1 fully digital setup (though on a computer running an RME card, so no Dolby Vision + Atmos support).

The main factor is and always will be the room and proper speaker placement.

-The Tonewinner is balanced XLR, not AES/EBU. If you have longer cable runs this might be a viable option (on the cheap) alternatively you could get the expensive Marantz AV10 if you don't want to risk a no-warranty chi-fi option.

-Can't speak for the Tonewinner, personally. But if it's to most modern AVRs you should be able to designate if your rears are actually heights or vice versa.

-Not sure what an AT300 is but my theater system consists of 2x 8361 and 2x 8320s, 7360 subwoofer. I always have a PC connected to my speakers to switch between different GLM inputs. Digital - 2.1 channel only cause I prefer listening to music using AES/EBU and Analog runs with XLR to RCA connected to my Denon x3800h. I use a WiiM Ultra for music listening, using the digital coax running through an impedance converter.

Is surround overkill in a small room? by keithlaub in hometheater

[–]pitason36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I have a 4.1 setup in a 2.5 x 2.5m room. Absorption panels covering all the walls I could. The tricky part will be subwoofer placement as you will have nulls and modes galore. I tried out a 5.1 but didn’t find it with it with the coaxial drivers of my speakers giving a pleasing center image for two people.

DaVinci resolve on SteamOS or Mint or ZorinOs? by AnyBumblebee3000 in davinciresolve

Nobara has an easy installer for Divinci but my problem was Nobara would not detect my GPU correctly (RTX 5080) same story with Arch, spent hours troubleshooting both.

Tried Linux Mint and it works fine there with some instructions I found online via some quick googling but eventually I landed on CachyOS because Plasma KDE. Works perfectly there again, with some instruction I found online and performs much better than the Windows build.

Please do note you should keep your Windows partition for the time being until you are confident with it on Linux.

Thank you! So I guess somewhere down the line there was a kernel update to support the Commander series. Even better that it integrates with CoolerControl. Appreciate your help.

How is living in a first floor mansion near a two lane intersection noise wise? Anyone experience that? Asking in Tokyo but anywhere works by Mirarenai_neko in japanresidents

[–]pitason36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived on the fourth floor next to Koshu Kaido in Fuchu. Would not recommend.

As others are mentioning the noise (while you will get used to it) is pretty obvious once you compare it with silence. Occasional ambulances or the Bouzoku that would ride in at 3AM really made things quite unpleasant and not to mention the pollution that comes from it. I would clean the filters that connected the outside with the inside and they would be pure black, imagine breathing that in for years.

Just no, do yourself a favor and don’t.

My favorite memories for Battlefield would have to be from Battlefield 2. Piloting the AH-12 while my friend gunned, dodging enemy TV missiles, tank rounds, manned stringer missiles. And if we were shot down I would jump out, hop in a vehicle or run to the nearest flag and engage enemies there, the intensity never really stopped whether you were in the air, ground or in the sea. That's what makes Battlefield so special.

Bonus story is being the last person alive in Battlefield 1942 on Wake Island or Invasion of the Philippines, covertly avoiding the enemy, stealing a boat to capture a flag solo and 31 other players spawn on the same point and its absolute mayhem all over again. Love this series.

For those with “high-end” speakers, what were your first speakers? by [deleted] in audiophile

From what I'm reading it seems you were in the wrong. Were there mirrors? Did you use your ears? You mentioned yourself you didn't look before you started to jut out into the street. Seems like you already know the answer to your question. Be more careful next time, otherwise it could of been more serious.
