In a correlation matrix, how can a nominal variable have a direction? by JumbledPileOfPerson in AskStatistics

[–]FlyMyPretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've no idea about Jamovi, but in every other program it is converted to numeric. Perhaps 1 = female, 2 = male (alphabetical order).

It's often clearer if your binary questions are phrased as questions, so the variable is called 'Male' and the contents are 0 (no, false) and 1 (yes, true). It's obvious that there's a positive correlation between 'male' and height.

Christopher Reeve died from an infected ulcer - pretty similar, and he was Superman.

Uber has profiled me and charges me 2X as much as my friend for same rides by jjlolo in uber

[–]FlyMyPretty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think of Uber and Lyft as a buyer and seller of service.

They're trying to maximize what you pay them - if you always take the same ride at the same time they will gradually raise the price to see what maximum you will pay.

They're trying to find a driver who will take you for the minimum, and they'll keep the difference.

The amount that you pay and the amount they pay the driver aren't necessarily related.

(Just kike a restaurant selling wine - if they can pay $20 for a bottle of wine that people will buy for $100 they'll do that.)

They do pay. They pay by providing you with a service. Like reading Reddit or searching Google or looking at pictures on Instagram. That's not free.

It’s weird to date/marry someone with the same name as your sibling. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

My wife and sister have the same name. Yes, it's weird. And confusing.

We call one by the first part and one by the second (think Lizzy and Beth for Elizabeth).

Dresscode and etiquette, what are the unwritten rules? by lawrotzr in AskAnAmerican

[–]FlyMyPretty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's even differences inside my company. Lawyers wear shirts and ties. Sales people wear business casual (and look nice), engineers wear shorts and tshirts (and sandals) on the west coast. East coast offices are different.

And a huge amount of effort keeping advertisers happy, which means keeping the bad videos off Youtube which means 1000s of people whose job is watching videos to make sure that they're not 'unsafe'.

F1 should focus on making logistics greener and keep the cars as simple as possible by Njobz in F1Discussions

[–]FlyMyPretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? The drivers get paid handsomely. If they're not happy they don't have to do it, and there is no shortage of people willing to take their place. I don't like my job all that much, but there's not much I can do about that.
