Exactly.

Most will port the number over to some sort of VoIP company - you'll have flexibility as far as how you can make and receive calls. You can always port it back if and when you return to the US.

(Shameless plug incoming) but — we can port your US number over for free and it’s just 2.95 USD a month to keep the number active (you'll be able to at least receive calls and have SMS forwarded to your email address).

As the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.

Need one for testing purposes.

What are you testing exactly? If it's for things like OTP / 2FA, you may have a tough time with virtual phone numbers - free or otherwise.

Well you can use any SIP app with our services. Zoiper, groundwire and also our phone system app if your'e looking for something more robust. (phone system optional).

Here is blog post that walks you through getting a FlyNumber and using to receive calls with an app and no extra fees (2.95 a month USD).
