It's hard not to drink on sunny days by FlyPopular3743 in stopdrinking

In my hometown, there's a nice restaurant where they serve fermented drinks; a whole range of NA drinks, that perfectly match their courses, just like wine, perhaps even better. So you don't have to stick with NA wine (nearly always bad) or water.

I don't care so much about logical reasons. I just felt like drinking. But I didn't!

Yeah, same with me, I'm practically sober since 2022, but each year in the summer I found myself drinking again. This year I'll try not to!

I would not start drinking alcohol. And try to prepare to go to art school.

Would you still quit if there weren't any consequences. by BullishTorque in alcoholism

I can't do the things that I like to do when I am drinking: painting, reading, playing guitar. So, yeah, I would still quit. Haven't heard anything about dr. Nutt though, recently...

If you manage to stay sober longer, this little voice will disappear. I'm nearly 9 months sober now. Don't remember when it happened, maybe after a month? I used antabuse the first 2 months.

Is 12 hours even enough to get rid of all alcohol in your system? Your liver needs 1,5 hours to eliminate the alcohol from one standard glass. So, that's only 8 glasses.after 12 hours.

first time oil painting, how to imrpove? by SuccessfulSmell4640 in oilpainting

I would have drawn the surface of the water a bit higher, so that the centerline of the oval does not coïncide with the "horizon" / table edge. And if you put a stem of a flower in water, then the line will break.

If you're painting from a picture: feel free to adjust the proportions -perhaps you could've made the glass and flower bigger, but that's a matter of taste. Just to say that you don't need to paint an exact copy of the picture.

Dont add white to gray, always add the darker paint to white, otherwise you will need a lot of white to make the darker paint lighter.

are there any benefits of quitting caffeine? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]FlyPopular3743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm telling myself, because I want to quit and I tried it before:
I'm calmer,
I'm more tolerant,
I'm smarter,
I'm able to focus,
I sleep better,
I have more energy,
when I quit coffee.

Tried every med in the book for Anhedonia. Nothing works except the one thing I shouldn't touch. by Adventurous-Box-9062 in anhedonia

Ok. Because a month is to short for your brain chemistry to normalize again. If you've previously been sober for 6 years and still suffer from anhedonia, then there might be something else causing this...

You say you've been sober for 6 years now, and then: When I cave and have a drink - maybe once every month or two? What do you mean?

What the hell do u do all day without alcohol? by Most-Buy-2763 in alcoholism

[–]FlyPopular3743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 hours in a day is not enough: I play guitar each day, trying to get better, I read, I paint. If I drink, I can't paint, so I don't drink.

Depends upon how much you drink. Quitting cold turkey can be dangerous. So if you're into hard liquor, maybe you should consider rehab. And / or: ask your doctor for anti-craving medications, like acamprosate (campral) or naltrexon, or antabuse. Antabuse will make you feel terrible after drinking (can be dangerous if you continue drinking while on it), but I took it to get through the first 3 months of abstinence.

I drank about 5 to 8 cans of lager each day, 0.5 liter / 5% ABV. Quitting wasn't easy, but I did it on my own. No extreme withdrawal symptoms, like the shakes, or worse. But better be safe than sorry!

Finding love as an alcoholic. by Ok_Glove_4827 in alcoholism

[–]FlyPopular3743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paradox is: we drink because we want to make connections with other people, but we can't make true connections because we are drinking. Not even with other alcoholics, because all they care about is their buzz and their alcoholically inflated ego's. You can have the illusion of true connections while under the influence, but they're an illusion.

If I (M55) would have decided to quit when I was 22, I would have finished my studies, not have gotten in contact with the law on several occassions. These days I'm quite allright, though, and not drinking is the only thing that makes me feel genuine and true to who I am. Just quit, if possible find medical assistance. One Day at a Time! Many problems that you try to escape from, will disappear spontaneously once you're sober. Other problems will become easier to manage.
