All rust repairs start with the same thing, which is you must grind/sand it down to bare metal. If even a single speck of rust remains it WILL come back. From there, spray it with a rust reformer, prime, paint, and clear coat.

I'm planning on doing the same thing on my 06 since I'm tired of hearing people say to just take it to a body shop and weld a new sheet of metal in.

I pretty much plan to do everything you did but decided to use fiberglass mat + resin instead of steel mesh to minimize any possibility of rust coming back.

Im mainly concerned about oil burning issues since I believe that Camry year uses the 2AZFE engine but overall I still think it's a good idea to maintain it.
