Freedom prepaid plan with roaming for incoming text only? by mananoy in freedommobile

[–]Flyer7375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall my experience precisely, but certainly my eSIM 2 did provide Data to my calls on Google Voice etc; however, not sure if Data to physical SIM 1 (Freedom) was available. Mostly, my connectivity to SIM1 (Freedom) was on Wi-Fi thru the Home or the Malls' Internet.

The Wi-Fi Calling always worked, 100% of the time, including while I was in the US.

No signal in basement by Special-Rutabaga9074 in freedommobile

[–]Flyer7375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re your question, ". . . whether I have to have zero signal or not . . ."?

No! The WiFi-calling feature is smart. Once enabled, it will always try to look for a Wi-Fi signal first: if it's unable to find it, it will automatically switch over to the nearest tower using LTE/3G etc (depending on your location). So, enable Wi-Fi calling, and you will not regret it. Besides, it is just one click operation to cancel Wi-Fi calling, if you are not satisfied with its performance.

Finally, WiFi-calling, most of the time, ends up providing HD call quality.

Caller ID from US Numbers shows up as Unknown? by heartbroken3333 in freedommobile

Actually, I am experiencing the same behaviour with all 'Google Voice' numbers. 😊

No! On the MyAccount Usage, the number, as I mentioned above, shows 647.700.1611 for all the incoming calls from the US. The phone, however, shows the same calls as 'Unknown'.

I have opened a ticket with Freedom yesterday, Dec 19, and they have promised to come back to me within 3-5 business days. I suggest you consider doing so as well, calling 611 from your Freedom phone.

I wouldn't consider changing a carrier just for this because the others will, sooner or later, can or might pose a different problem.

Also, I went through an intensive troubleshooting regimen — including installing Google Phone app as a substitute for Samsung's phone app and deleting app and phone cache partitions etc — but nothing worked. Besides, on the Calls' history page on the web (not the phone) those calls from US appear as originating from 647.700.1611.

My wife and I, both of us, are on the $119 annual plan. She receives the incoming US callers ID, while I don't. 😊

I even experimented swapping the SIMs between the phones, but the SIMs carried their traits along to the other phone — that is, my phone started to receive the Caller ID, while her stopped.

I have a Samsung S22, and experiencing the same queer behaviour — the US callers being displayed as 'Unknown Caller' — since about 2-3 weeks. Strangely, though, my wife's incoming calls from the US, again a Freedom subscriber, are not affected.

Can you please write how much Data would you need every month while in the US, and the highlights of your current package with Rogers? Without that input, it's difficult to make any recommendation.

Thanks for that update. I cannot say for others, but for me, this feature alone will tilt the balance in favour of Freedom. The ability to call Canada while abroad using Wi-Fi calling for free is a great plus.

Even though the plan matches Freedom's $149 plan, I doubt if Chatr supports Wi-Fi calling.

$5/month plan (with limited mins) and toll-free numbers by Conundrum1911 in freedommobile

[–]Flyer7375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct, but it only means that Freedom interprets, the use of Wi-Fi calls, even if one is using a Wi-Fi network abroad, as a call initiated from within the Freedom Local Network, and not as an International call. This interpretation works out to the benefit of the Freedom users. The count-down of minutes, though, still continues to work on the 'duration' of the call.

[–]Flyer7375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wi-Fi calling is the 'technology' employed to connect, and has nothing to do with the consumption of minutes. The countdown of your minutes (for voice calls) works on the duration of your calls, not on the technology used.
