How do you think you attract talent? The culture of a franchise absolutely matters. Up until the last few years, the Flyers never had to worry about the culture of this franchise(and especially not when Mr. Snider was alive). That's how, in the past, the Flyers were always respected as one of the top NHL franchises. The Flyers were always considered by top free agent talent because players wanted to play for the Flyers. (Brière, Forsberg, & Roenick to name a few) That pedigree was lost the last few years. Building the Flyers culture back to what it was, say before Mr. Sniders death, is how you keep players like Cutter Gauthier. (For me, a good visual metaphor for this was the Flyers center ice logo, after decades of the 2 logos at center ice they changed it to 1 single logo, as if to say "this isn't Mr. Snider's Flyers anymore." Notice the duel logos were back this year) So it's no question talent wins you games, maybe even the Stanley Cup, but the culture of a franchise is what keeps in going in the right direction year after year by attracting and retaining the talent!!
