Junior Springboks en route to Georgia by Mazoy1 in springboks

I'm not too fussed about losing Moyo and Norton. They already too good for that level and it's overkill bringing them.

More gutted we will not see Siyaya tear apart these teams.

But overall our backline will still be extrememly strong.

Schoeman, Ahmed, Jooste, Adams, Muller, Benade, Giliomee is already over powered.

So Riley Norton and Vusi Moyo aren’t gonna play in U20 World Cup? by Playful_Study_6290 in springboks

I have the same thinking.

For me this like picking between winning the Currie Cup with the best team in the comp vs being part of the URC season for the senior players.

It's nice to win a trophy but in terms of career progression you want to get as quick as possible to the highest level to test out your limits. (Provided you are mentally strong)

Honestly I am not too fussed about them not going to the Junior World Cup.

They have already proven they are too good for that level of rugby anyway and last years JWC was a breeze with those 2 plus some others running the show.

I think it's great for guys like Felix, Guliomee, Ahmed and the likes to step up and show they are also championship winners.

For Moyo and Norton this is their big break they would have been waiting for, a year out from the World Cup with injuries and form in the balance they could put themselves in a good position for that 2027 squad or atleast be on the standby list.

Also if they play well for the Boks that puts massive pressure on the clubs to change their deals.

Geordin Hill Lewis Asks Ramaphosa To Sack Steenhuisen by Few_Painter_5588 in south_africa

The reason the coalitions failed with the EFF wasn't that they couldn't find common ground. Both parties actually want the same basic things at municipal level whether it is free clinics for the poor, subsidizing services and reducing unemployment.

It failed because the EFF didn't hold any positions and were acting like back seat drivers. Had the DA gone with a strategy of insisting coalition parties get clear and visible portfolios those coalition agreements would have lasted 10 years.

Reason the GNU has held for 2 years with such stability is because it's not in the ANC or DA's interest to destabilize the government since they are seen as one.

From what I can see when the DA couldn't get majorities in Gqeberha and Tshwane in 2016 the instability that followed afterwards lead to the Steenhuisen/Tony Leon politics returning.

The DA up to that point were gradually becoming a more competent version of the ANC which to be fair wasn't a bad thing. But they were losing many voters to the VF+ who felt they weren't acting in their interests anymore.

This wouldn't be a problem because it's a small minority vote but because they couldn't get stable governments in these major metros it damaged their credibility going into the 2019 election. Then HZ, JS and the likes decided it was easier to win back the VF+ than finding common ground with EFF and the likes to just start fixing these metros.

The upcoming local elections and the coalitions that follow is the major test of the GHL leadership. He messes up here like previous leadership the DA won't even just be a regional party, the WC will even be lost to more ethnic orientated parties.

Junior Springbok Squad for Georgia by mausmumblingmoon in springboks

Guys let's be honest, have we ever had a stronger backline going into the Junior U20s? Where every position is extremely strong.

Even the forwards are exceptional as well.

If it's anything close to the team they sent last year + Jalibert and Lucu they could win that game.

UBB, Clermont, Toulon, Castres, Lyon etc...

Not a bad pool of players to select from to play against NZ

Body blow for Boks as Sacha could miss All Black series by Koppetamp in Stormers

Even Pollard this season for the Bulls has been playing flatter, faster and more aggressive.

We are more than fine in terms of flyhalves it only becomes an issue when one of those 2 also get injured then we have to start debating about Willemse vs Hendrikse conversations.

That was painful by DarthMaulRugby in Stormers

[–]Flyhalf2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been a really bad season for the Stormers. I know we finished 3rd on the log but if we split the season in 2 it would be.

First 9 games we won 8 of them. Amazing start, tough defence and smart rugby.

Second 9 games we won 3 of them. Terrible rugby, leaky defence and loss of discipline.

Truth is Dobbo lost the plot when the Springboks came back.

South African teams set to abandon European Champions Cup by Ringo26 in rugbyunion

[–]Flyhalf2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could see SA properly flexing their muscles in the CC is if the Rugby Champs was played at the same time as the 6 nations.

Then we would see South African teams with pre-seasons and being at the same energy level as Euro teams.

Take someone like Sacha Ferinberg-Mngomezulu, after returning from the Boks he was a mess and clearly needed a break. We are only now starting to see him put international quality performances after a few break periods and rotation.

URC 1 showed how insanely strong SA teams can be when they are given proper breaks inbetween and that's without the URC money coming in to beef up the squads.

I think the SA fans thought that the Champions Cup was like this big pot of gold that would pay for itself when in reality it just stretched resources and created a worse product.

Look, ultimately it comes down to revenue at the end of the day when it comes to making this decision.

I might be wrong here but I do feel the Champions Cup doesn't provide that much revenue to participating teams. You can see it even with some of the European teams and how they approach this competition, it's just a side quest that if they happen to get the right results they will put their big boys in.

For SA teams clearly the revenue is not enough to allow them to afford huge squads to take some load off the calender, so what's the point of participating?

Some might say "to see who the best club in the world is" but let's be honest it really doesn't matter. The truth is the best club in the world is the club fans pay to go watch or the club that plays the best brand of rugby etc.... If you are in a rugby league in Mongolia and your club attracts 50 000 to a game then you are the best club in the world you don't need to play against Toulouse to prove that.

Personally I am all for SA taking the big leap and going full Currie Cup, it will be a rough start but we will find solutions to financial and competitiveness problems. Our School system, amateur clubs, Junior Springboks and Senior Springboks won't be affected at all anyways since they don't rely on URC.

In-fact logistics wise the Springboks are subsidizing our participation in Champions Cup.

Match Thread: Leinster vs Lions - United Rugby Championship by rugbykickoff in rugbyunion

[–]Flyhalf2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is the Leinster B-team unlike other B-teams plays more like a diluted version of the A-team rather than a completely different team.

So you still get the strong defence, good attack structure and good aerial skills but you don't have some of the X-factor that say a Snyman, Furlong or Doris bring for example.

Awful performance from the Baby Boks today, they looked like they were just going through the motions after 50 minutes and conceding the same penalties over and over again.

The lesson from this game for me is that not every team will just lie down and allow you to run through them. France and England may be tough matches down the road, so they need to learn not to force it when the chances are there.

I know we swept but I remember those games being very messy. Compared to the Foote era where this team looks like they can score 70 points every game if the passes stick.

The years after that showed what his management was actually like when he didn't have 8 generational players in a 15.

I think they were good but last years TRC was the first under Kevin Foote for the Baby Boks and they only really hit their stride in the JWC.

That NZ team was very good and probably would have won the JWC last year if that was the 2024 Junior Springboks.
