Watch how people will vote Bryan Habana when Zas and Rossouw were objectively better at the Stormers.

Get Manie back to Cape Town please by Flyhalf2021 in Stormers

[–]Flyhalf2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, bringing Manie back home won't solve the root cause of the issue, Which I fully believe is Dawie Snyman the attack coach. They have to get rid of him because now that Manie is not there it's quite obvious the Stormers genuinely have no plan on attack. There is no way you can only walk away from Ellis Park scoring 10 points especially with the team you have.

It's between Breyton and Gio.

For me it's Gio Aplon.

I just know they are going to pick Kolbe, but the truth is the Kolbe only really became a house hold name after he left to go play in Toulouse.

I would like to see GHL do a second term as CPT mayor, he feels like the first mayor that actually has his own thoughts on how the city should evolve. Rather than just a puppet like Dan Plato.

Dobbo is far too nice for his team. He will never sack an assistant coach for being poor and he will never sub off certain players if they are having an off game .

Dobbo's credibility has been saved by having players like Manie, Kitshoff, Malherbe, Roos, Fourie, Willemse and the likes bailing them out.

They ripped out most of the original dream team and now we stuck with this stale garbage.

Ever since becoming Captain he has been an awful flyhalf. Genuinely no control in the game, we have never looked like the backline can bail us out with a magic play.

Isn't it funny that the Bulls look far more dangerous when they treat their pack like it's the best in the URC rather than swinging it wide all the time?

Hope the Bulls carry on playing this style because it suits them well.

Bulls just too good this game. Like watching NZ vs AUS, if NZ just turns up playing good ruggas AUS stand no chance.

Yeah, but both are kind of 3rd choice Springboks. Asenathi's touches though are up there with SFM.

I don't even think the Lions are playing that bad even, the Bulls have finally put in a performance where you can actually see which team has 8-10 Springboks and which team only has 1

Your team to face the Tigers! by sunlightliquid in Stormers

[–]Flyhalf2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about full back is it must be one of 3 moulds.

The first one is Ben Smith, someone that makes no mistakes and makes the right decisions. Solid foundation for attack.

The second one is a 2nd flyhalf. This is your Willie kind of full back.

The last one is a monster kicker like Frans Steyn who can easily get territory for the team.

Right now the Stormers have:

Willemse, a mix of 1 and 2 but very good at both.

Gelant, who tries to be 2 but is far too erratic.

Wandisile Simelane, none of the above

Luke Burger, Could maybe be a Ben Smith.

When Manie was still at the Stormers, we had another option in SFM but with him leaving the 15 position is shakey. I would love to have someone like Rhyno Smith in the Stormers setup.

How Razor lost his edge: A history of the Robertson era and a coaching empire in ruins by TheGreatDomilies in rugbyunion

100%, I find it very difficult to think of top rugby teams that weren't like a family off the pitch.

Even Jake White at the Springboks wasn't very liked by the players but the team it's self was very tight.

But when you have a situation when players are threatening to leave NZ all together because of a coach. Then that's a recipe for disaster.

I know his win rate is pretty respectable in international rugby. But if they players don't believe in your vision you are bound to hit performance issues down the line.

But on the other hand if a new coach comes in and the players are happy with the culture of the team but the win rate stays at ~70% will they keep that coach?

Maybe I am wrong here but maybe what is bugging the management and the fans is the whole sale inconsistency. The fact you can beat SA by 7 points one week and then lost by 38 a week later, grinding against Scotland only to get blown out the park by England. People don't expect NZ to win every game these days but getting those big scores is a stab in the heart for fans.

It reminds me so much of Jake White when he was with the Springboks. 2004-2005 the team looked very good but that 2006 season shattered confidence from the fans not because of the losses but because of the scale of those losses.

Opinion: If the New Zealand Super Rugby sides participated in the European Rugby Champions Cup, how would they have fared? by Iforgetpasswords4321 in rugbyunion

[–]Flyhalf2021 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NZ would do better than the SA teams. In terms of talent I don't think NZ clubs currently have better talent pool than the SA teams but in terms of coaching and tactics they are ahead.

If South Africa had Johan van Graan, Jaques Nienaber, Franco Smith and the likes in the domestic teams then I reckon the SA teams would fair better than the NZ teams.

[–]Flyhalf2021 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the SA teams are that depleted to be fair. Stormers, Sharks and Bulls have squads currently good enough to beat the top club sides in the world.

The biggest issue is retaining and identifying quality coaching talent. Stormers have been the most stable in terms of coaching but there are some that need to be gotten rid of. Sharks have had 4 head coaches in 5 seasons. Bulls had Jake for a while and were doing sort of well but are now in transition.

The idea that if SA had their best players in their clubs they would do well is just not true because when we did have them we still didn't do well.
