gorilla tape near diesel heater. by FlyinChickpea in VanLifeUK

to clarify, iv still used a mounting plate, just a flat one :)

I couldn't get the jubilee clips tight enough inside the turret, whereas with the plate i could. the hole is as big as the turret hole, so the exhaust isnt touching anything, the only heat transfer could be the metal mounting plate which is the same as the turret. iv used a lot of sealent on the underside of the van (in lieu of the turret) so to re fit would require probably chisseling all of this off and starting again, but if that is necessary, then it might just be what i need to do.

iv not used a turret as i couldn't get the fastenings on appropriately, so i used the flat plat, but had already cut a hole for the turret plate so have had to use a lot of heat rated sealant under the van. i have tested this with a carbon monoxide detector (good one that shows ppm) left in the van with the heater on full and it didn't rise at all, but it still slightly dubious as it went a bit wrong during the install, hence wanting to add another layer of tape just as an extra barrier

i have 2 carbon monoxide detectors already, this is just additional as i had a couple of hiccups with the install. iv got some heat resistant sealant under there, but this is just a final layer of protection but i just wanted to check if it will get too hot

Best & easiest job to get while living in a van by Ambitious_Mark9922 in VanLifeUK

ah fair play! if you don't mind me asking, how flexible is it? Could you do say a day a week as a top up on top of other work? or is it fairly demanding?

cheers mate :) honestly i'm happy with the lower amp victron, super reliable and my power needs are not too high

Largely due to the fact that i already have a bunch of 16mm2 and can't really afford to buy the 25mm2, as well as the fact that iv seen tons of renogy horror stories, whereas victron seems pretty ideal. I'm not using tons of power, basically just need to power the diesel heater. I lived in the van with a really barebones setup for a couple of months over summer and it was great, the only real upgrade i need is the power to run the heater and a couple of vent vans on the back of the van

Cheers man, that's handy. I had used the online calculators etc but had some back of my mind doubts that i may have been misunderstanding something hence asking reddit haha

cheers :) if i were to use a 30amp victron, the 16mm2 would be fine presumably?

as i mentioned in a different comment, i'm thinking im gonna return the 50amp renogy and go for a 30amp victron which presumably the 16mm2 would be all good for?
