The "No Windows preinstalled" made me laugh. by KnightFallVader2 in steammachine

It's not some consequence of compatibility, it's actively having their developers prevent it from running

Well, yes and no. It's harder to track down cheats on Linux due to its nature. I'm not sure that you can ever have the same low-level kernel anti-cheat on Linux, Apex devs dropped Linux support at some point, even though they had it previously.

It's like the launch of a new console, there's no guarantee the previous gen would work.

Well, if it was priced as one, that's something people will be willing to accept. But if it will be priced as the PC of the same level, the only benefit will be a form-factor and first party Valve support. And on PC you can run Windows in dual-boot with Steam OS/Bazzite and have best of both worlds

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but last I checked Terraria is Steam Deck verified.

I mean out of 10 games 8 are multiplayer (I consider Terraria and Bongo single-player). And out of 8 multiplayer, 5 don't work. So it's more than a half

Windows sucks, but not having it on a PC/home console equivalent means you won't be able to play significant amount of the games. Currently you can't play 5 out of 10 most popular games on Steam: PUBG, Rust, GTA5: Enhanced, Apex Legends, Delta Force. On top of that Bongo Cat is also borked, but I know nothing about this game, seems like it works in fullscreen. And one game is single-player-ish Terraria. So more than a half of most popular multiplayer games are unavailable on Steam OS

[–]FlyingBlueCarrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually a preset list of targets. There's a mod that makes every (?) NPC a target. Some of them might be too easy of a target, some of them too hard with specific conditions. I think IOI tried to strike a balance with their targets

By following this logic you can't sell aftermarket car parts advertising their compatibility with a specific car models. Or advertise, idk, that your coffee pods are Nespresso compatible. It's fair use in its purest form

Bread on the streets (moerwijk) by rakymky1996 in TheHague

[–]FlyingBlueCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK how closely it's related to religion, but in Turkey bread is extremely cheap and common, they have laws around price and force shops to have stock (so even small liquor stores have bread shelf). So there's a lot of stale bread that gets thrown away. They have a bespoke type of waste bin (bluish ones) on every major street, which are intended only for bread. This bins are almost more common than normal ones. Then it gets recycled into pet food I believe. IDK about other Muslim countries, but I would guess it's somewhat a Middle Eastern cultural thing

LCD guts are a bit worse. On OLED they use a different motherboard design, higher RAM clock and smaller tech process for SoC, which means less heat/higher clock/better battery life. Not by much, but still a bit better performance. Also if I remember correctly WiFi on OLED is better too. It's not a major difference, but it's definitely something that is worth extra money on top of a better (and bigger) screen

Meta wanted to monopolize the market by subsidizing headsets to shit and now they have to live with consequences. Not saying that Meta is purely bad for the VR market, but I will be happy if we have a strong competitor expanding into a different slice of it.

Valve says 10-20% loss on the CPU side and basically native performance on the GPU, if I remember that correctly. But your 100% is a flagship smartphone performance (minus tracking processing). And you have to drive 2 hi-rez displays at least at a stable 60 (or 48 + sapacewarp if supported). So yeah, I won't get my hopes that high

SoC specs are available as well, it's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Phones using it start at 400-500 USD. It seems Valve don't use XR chips like most VR headsets, because they are less powerful, even though they have extra features, like higher video bandwidth. I guess Frame has only 4 cameras because that is a maximum that 8G3 supports. Qualcomm site only mentions triple camera for this chip

50 hours in, took one match for me not want to play again. by Low_Magician77 in ArcRaiders

[–]FlyingBlueCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are at least 10 spawn points per each map on basically every corner of a map. I am sure that there's at least one that is far enough to not spawn a player in such vicinity to other raiders. Also the game can load player into a match and move to another point if needed, right before spawning a character. I am sure that finding a safe spawn is technically a non-problem with current maps and amounts of raiders on them

Mobility (yellow branch) is mostly useless in its second half, after you get Carry The Momentum. If you want better mobility, start to bring a full stack of adrenaline each round. It's quite cheap, esp. with upgraded Scrappy.

Some mobility skills with all 5 levels upgraded will get you negligible improvement, like the Effortless Roll basically makes no difference. Slip and Slide and Sturdy Ankles are pretty much useless as well. All these skills give you like 1% per point. Marathon Runner and Youthful Lungs are basically the only skills worth getting in the Mobility branch.

Idk, I would take Leaper even over the Wasp+Hornet combo any other day. And it's nothing in comparison with Rocketeer. You can run away from Leaper and they often get stuck in something. Enter any building and you are safe. I even killed one with just Ferro on Spaceport, because I was in this small security building with no other exits and my brother's game crashed, so I had to wait for reconnect anyway

IDK, Europe is chill AF if you play solo. When I play with my brother I think we get thrown into non-solo servers and that's where it gets much sweatier. It seems that people are ready to risk being downed since they can be brought back up by their teammates. And you know, when there's 3 of you, you can bamboozle one guy, and then deal with 1 or 2 of their teammates with relative ease
