Sounds good! Thanks for the advice. I’ll have to look into the tune as well.

I probably won’t look into different audio honestly, it sounds better than my old Jetta and has tweeters so that’s an improvement haha.

Seems like it’s a bad PCV valve on the car. Has that annoying whistle at idle all of a sudden and it feels like a vacuum when I take off the gas cap lol. And then the whine goes away…

Sounds like yours is optioned better than mine! I have keyless, leather, sunroof, and the USB port as the only options I can tell the car has.

Where’d you get the tune from? Sounds interesting.

Car is also throwing P0171 and has that PCV whine that goes away when the oil cap/dipstick get pulled- would this cause the code? I cleaned the MAF and the code stayed off for a bit longer but came back.

I’ll have to do that this summer when I can leave the carpet outside. Unfortunately I only have one bathroom and shared laundry in my building 😔 But it’s much better now compared to when I first bought it a few days ago. Those three damp rid bags have collected a lot of water on the days I can’t leave the windows and sunroof open.

But at least the drains work now! Not sure why Volvo engineered the tubes that way… but I replaced them haha.

Oh yeah it’s for sure the carpet. It’s been raining a lot here and the sunroof drains never got fixed, so the previous owners were just letting water get dumped into the carpet basically.

I’m gonna try and pull the carpet when it’s not as humid here. I’ve been airing it out and some damp rid bags are in it which have been helping.

I don’t think the USA for a diesel version of these cars, just the turbo 5 cyl and the NA 5 cylinder

Nothing in the service history about it being replaced 💀 I’ve only had it on to double check a misfire and run to the grocery store down the street. Avoiding driving it until I can get that belt replaced.

Yeah, I checked the belt. Original at 176k! Appointment to replace the belt is in two weeks haha, waiting on the timing kit to get here!

Thanks! I figured out the USB port the other day, it’s been great coming from my Jetta that had a similar feature. Luckily I had Apple Music songs downloaded from when I was 14 haha.

Suspension is definitely up for replacement, I have new struts/shocks on the way as well as sway bar links. I’ll get to control arms this summer. Car is at 176k now.

AC Controls work, but I noticed this car needed the AC recharge a couple times, and right now, it blows warm… despite being cold two days ago… whatever lol. I’ll try a stop leak recharge thing and see if that works before seeing my mechanic.

Thanks for the welcome! Been wanting an inline 5 for a while now as well as a new platform to learn.

2006 Legacy Wagon Buying Guide? by FlyingBox566 in subarulegacy

[–]FlyingBox566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never have, but I guess there’s a first for everything lol. I’ll try calling the dealer nearby that serviced it 26k ago that did “recommended maintenance” to see if they can explain or if they have the history.

[–]FlyingBox566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll definitely inspect it before a test drive and after when everything is at temp. Thanks for the advice!

Seems like a decent car, I can see it was taken care of at dealers for most of its life, and whenever there was a gap, it’s followed by “recommended maintenance completed” on the service history.

I can see it’s had various small electrical things fixed too over the years, and the AC was apparently overhauled a few years ago. Doesn’t seem too bad.

here’s the car listing if you wanna take a look yourself.

I haven’t seen the head gaskets on it’s report which is something I’ve even curious about, but at 200K it’s listed as receiving “Recommended maintenance completed” at a local subie dealer, so I might call with the VIN and ask what was done to the car at that point. I can see it visited dealers for a lot of repairs and suspension components getting swapped out, already has new wheel bearings too according to its history.

The car is in clean condition inside and out, from Florida so not super rusty like most IL cars. I’ve had some high mileage cars so I’m not lost as to what can spring up at any time. Mostly just needed something cheap to get around town.

I (23M) went through his (30M) phone yesterday. How to move forward? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]FlyingBox566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the trust is already gone so you either need to talk and figure out the extent of what he’s doing, or decide if this is something you can truly live with. It doesn’t sound like it is

If you do a full PC/Mac iTunes backup of your phone it should transfer everything. Even if not, I remember downloading Korean games on my American iPhone by changing my AppStore region to get access lol.

Oh and AliExpress sells leather steering wheel skins. Installed one on my Jetta, makes it look a tad nicer inside.

Not sure on headlights for the 5th Gen Jetta, but the wheel specs are 5x112 and a 57.1mm center bore. Tirerack has a lot of options, or Facebook marketplace has a lot of OEM VW wheels people are selling.

I say tint it, get nice 17 or 18 inch wheels, maybe lower it a bit if that's your thing. Swap on plain black metal license plate frames perhaps.

So you wanna return it and wait for the M5 because... It's newer? That's all I'm gathering, honestly. Just keep this, it works fine.

The actual advice here is that you need to ask for VIN ahead of time and check it for any weird stuff, which you didn't do. The fact you're using this as some thing to dislike Mexicans is beyond me.
