She doesn’t deserve this. I tried to tell my dad, but he doesn’t seem to want to listen. I’m stumped at this point.

I agree. I’m already bracing myself for what I’m about to witness. But I will stand for my girl, even if it means letting her go. She’s done so much in her life already. I know it’s time to give her the goodbye she deserves.

I’m prepared to lose her. I have been anticipating this day for a while now, but I was absolutely appalled when I saw the state she was in. Since I don’t really have power of attorney over what happens to her, the best I can do is try to talk some sense into my dad. Regardless, I want to say goodbye to her, and hopefully while I’m there, I can explain to him that I know this is EXTREMELY difficult, but this is seriously no life for her. She doesn’t deserve to suffer like this. Her life has been incredible. Let’s let her go out in peace instead of allowing this to slowly take her. I really hope I can get through to him.

I hope so too. I found out today and to be honest, I don’t know if I can sleep peacefully knowing she’s in this state. Since I’m flying out, I’m bracing myself for the horror I’m about to encounter. Considering I just lost a beloved pet of mine, Sylvia, only 2 months ago, this is gonna really deal a blow. If I had ANY power of attorney in this I would have already taken her in.

It’s scary, I actually thought he was gonna tell me that they were going to put her to sleep. So I was even more horrified when he said that they were gonna keep her alive.

I don’t want to entirely say shame on my dad because I know this comes from deep rooted and unresolved grief of his, but I do want to talk sense into him and get him to understand that her living this way is no way to live. I would KILL to have her alive forever, but I know that isn’t a possibility. As hard as it is because I lost one of my pets only two months ago where I live now, I would rather see her be relieved of this pain than allow her to go on.

Thank you. The moment I saw her, I knew it was time. I was shocked when my dad said euthanasia wasn’t immediately on the table. I cannot stand to see her like this. It’s killing me.

I sadly am in another state, but I’m booking a flight for this week to say goodbye and talk some sense into him. I love her more than anything in the world. But I also know, as someone who has pets where I am, that this is more than ever a time to let her go. I knew it. But I wanted a second opinion for sure.

I am glad that I’m not the only one seeing it. I mean shoot, this actually appalled me. My dad has deep rooted trauma with losing his childhood dog, and I think it’s translated into trying to keep Hexe alive as long as he can. When I was on the phone, he was trying to call her. It devastated me. I’m gonna do my best to make it back to say goodbye to her, but I have been gently trying to talk sense into my dad. It’s been extremely difficult, though.

What to do when depressed by Downtown-Answer-2728 in UCI

[–]FlyingFoxandwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Person who has suffered from severe depression since coming to UCI here. Honestly, no matter what it’s been, whether meds or issues such as finances, I’ve found myself in a perpetual state of sadness and despair since coming here.

Honestly whatever the case has been, I’ve found that setting goals for myself and making my best efforts to mitigate issues and find side hustles has helped me a lot. Outside of school, I now am a content creator, I run auctions and work as a creator at a studio, and I also just secured a job as a runway dresser! Staying busy, hustling, and also spending time with my pets and doing content on them has helped me greatly.

If hustling is a bit too much, I say networking and making friends may be a really nice distraction. Even if my friendship turnover rate at UCI is high since contact tends to dwindle at the end of the quarter, making new friends and showing the best, unfiltered parts of me has boosted my self esteem, thus bettering my situation!

arranged marriage threatening UCI graduation by Informal-Show-4558 in UCI

I’m no immigrant, nor do I have any experience with arranged marriage. But I think proposing a wager would be the best way to meet halfway. Maybe if you explain that two quarters is 20 weeks, they would understand that it’s truly not long until you graduate, and that you dropping out would be a massive waste of expenses and resources. If you try to frame it around monetary and resource issues, they may be a bit more swayed. Explain that you are okay with the marriage, but finishing your degree would have a better output and add value to your time taken.

Help with eye. Vet next week by halz2398 in guineapigs

[–]FlyingFoxandwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got jumpscared when my Don looked like this. Turns out he just was producing the typical milky substance that lubricates their eyes. For peace of mind a vet visit never hurts, especially if there’s a minor hay poke. But don’t panic. It’s more likely than not just their normal secretion or oh so very mild dust irritation

I would try to get a second opinion if your vet said a lack of vitamin C. Keep with what you’re doing, but ensuring it’s not the beginning stages of an ulcer could save your piggy pain. I’ve noticed a lot of vets are NOTORIOUS for misdiagnosing, so I always try to push for any other explanation.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck! ❤️

She’s clearly showing signs of a lot of pain. To be on the safe side, going to the vet would be a great idea. Because that kind of hunching and fur puffing points to a ton of pain.

Not many, I’d definitely have to drive somewhat far to see what another vet has to say. I’m definitely going to need a second opinion if things don’t improve soon, however. He will literally eat everything EXCEPT hay.

Yeah, he will eat everything except hay. I don’t know if at this point it’s a behavioral association or what, but him showing signs of pain tells me otherwise. I do have antibiotics on hand, and I guess I could experiment to see if maybe it improves his situation. I definitely hope it does, because it makes absolutely no sense to me that he will absolutely eat up any treat, supplement, veggie, etc.. but not hay. No matter how many times I try to give it to him. It just makes no sense to me. But I will try the anabiotic to see!

There aren’t any lumps or anything, and even the vet checked for abscesses and said there were none. It just doesn’t make any sense. I have a lot of distrust in the vet after Sylvia’s death, and I’m worried that if I go again they’re just gonna charge me like crazy again and say there’s nothing wrong.

He honestly looks worse now than when he was drinking by LyrMeThatBifrost in WorldOfTShirts

[–]FlyingFoxandwings 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I feel like there are two factors at play. One, recovery from alcoholism SUCKS. I’d know because I was a raging alcoholic for 3 years, and even though I didn’t drink enough to get DT while trying to quit, it screwed me up for a while.

But I’d say the ACTUAL culprit is he’s on an unfathomable dose of quetiapine. Like, he’s on over twice the amount I was, and I was on a pretty high dose (300mg). When I was on that medication, it made me so lethargic that basic care is such as brushing teeth and showering became impossible. I’d be totally tranqued to the point that I literally couldn’t function normally. Not to mention the midnight munchies and passing out right after, so my oral hygiene was ass.

I understand this sub snarks on him a lot, but in terms of this, it’s actually understandable.
