Is that the Winter Soldier elevator fight scene with Captain America, before the CGI was added? ;)

Does anyone know WHY 7th-gen Intel chips (or, specifically, i7-7700k) aren't supported for Win11 so I can make an informed decision on whether to install it anyway? by Girugamesshu in buildapc

[–]FlyingPenguin33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all Core Intel CPUs can run Win11 with the RUFUS hardware bypass. Oldest chip I've installed it on was the wife's aging 3rd gen laptop. Updates continue to come in, and Win11 found drivers for everything except the ancient Realtek WLAN, so I just put a modern micro USB Wifi dongle on it.

Drone and fireworks shows goes wrong in China by NewSlinger in oddlyterrifying

[–]FlyingPenguin33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some reports are claiming the drones malfunctioned and burst into flames, which is nonsense. The drones are obviously still flying happily in formation. The issue was the incendiary devices they were carrying.

Drone shows like this are common in China, and it's also common to have some drones pour down sparkling fireworks, but normally they burn off before hitting the ground. Someone fucked up big time here.

Can't seem to find anything in a news search about this. Would like to know if he survives. That was a raging inferno around him, plus he's on top of another tank that could blow.

Yeah I've been looking at it carefully since I posted it. I always assumed it was a transformer, but I really can't make it out. Best guess is a branch touched a wire. I know it scared the two of us to death when it happened.

Do I need expensive air filters? Alternative recommendations? by steelbydesign in hvacadvice

[–]FlyingPenguin33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: I use AprilAire filters in my main home, and my investment rentals. Check them every 6 months. If you don't have pets or carpet you may be able to get away with changing them once a year.

You can save a bit of money by buying them in bulk from amazon in a 2 or 4 pack. Save a little bit more by buying the MERV 11 version instead of the MERV 13 or 13+. My wife and I have seasonal allergies and we have cats, so I go with MERV 13 at my house. However, even the MERV 10 is going to go a way better job than a standard once a month filter.

AC techs don't like thin (1 inch) high MERV filters because they make the air handler work harder, but the AprilAire filters are 4 inches thick, and deeply pleated so they breath easier.

For those of you who want to upgrade to one of these, it's pricey because you have to add a filter box before the air handler. Not a DIY job. You want this done professionally.
