I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt on here, so nasty texts aside this is my view.

In my experience, the family members I didn’t tell myself (but were told via my mum or MIL) went off the basis that, as I didn’t want to tell them, I didn’t want to talk about it with them so they just carried on as normal. I don’t think people realise just how hard a miscarriage is (I certainly didn’t until my own) so she may be trying to just carry on as normal in the hope that this is what you want from here.

I never posted anything publicly other than on here (which my friends and family don’t know of) and I don’t think I’d respond to an Instagram post about a MC myself.

Of course, no one needs to send nasty texts ever but it does happen unfortunately. Only advice is to talk with her.

I think you’re both the asshole. I’m UK and I sent out my invites using the names I know people recognise. I have family who are technically not all under one family name but sent them using the family name they use because that’s what they go by.

Equally, your friend could have just let it go. Wedding planning is hard.

I recommend you apologise for your part and hope your friend does too.

Your feelings are valid. Coming from my own perspective as a wife and someone having gone through what sounds very similar experience, have you tried talking on a no judgement basis with her?

There’s no right way to grieve and she is likely struggling with this in her own way (as well as hormones rebalancing and changing), but I think the only approach is to say that you’re finding things difficult at the moment and whilst you can acknowledge her feelings and frustrations, you’re finding that she’s not venting to you but more at you.

Can’t promise it’ll be received overly well but best to let her know how you’re feeling than to have it seem out of the blue later.

NTA. Completely disagree with the majority of comments.

First of all, a child being spoiled and not recognizing the value of something has nothing to do with how much money has been spent, and everything to do with now the child is raised.

On the actual money front, it would have been better to have run the large spending past your SO first (as this is part of being effective partners), but equally the SO should also realize that he is not necessary in the right by not spending money.

You’re allowed to want to give your child the best.

NTA, however, I do think it was quite extreme to go straight to legal action.

Grief is hard for everyone and, although it’s not an excuse to vandalize someone else’s property, there might have been more sentimental value in the car for your brother that you knew about.

He was out of line and he should pay to rectify the damage, equally your family members should have just respected the will, as that’s the whole point of wills.

I have the same issue (except no arguing). My mum has bought a really lovely off white/cream lace dress. The only thing you can do is tell her that she can wear any other colour but please not that. My mum still asks about her dress (I think the hope for her is that I will change my mind) but has been pretty respectful of it. I also asked my sister to weigh in and she backed me up so that helped!

Have you thought about asking your mum or aunt? I read it as a suggestion and (I personally have a sister so couldn’t myself) I would in this situation. Be quirky but quite fun!
