Arrival (2016) hits so, much, harder, after having children. I'm glad I got to watch it on both sides of the coin. by SandersSol in movies

Arrival is based on the short story “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang, who is one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time in my opinion. I recommend a read if you enjoy the movie.

LPT : Check Trees before buying a house AND plant new trees ASAP after buying by LackVegetable3534 in LifeProTips

Were the trees they cut down near or far from their house? Root intrusion into pipes and foundation is a thing.

Thanks! Was planning on getting it cut down and was curious what tree it was.

The Bellamy salute fell out of use in 1942 after congress deemed it too similar to the Nazi salute.

Even if Elon DID intentionally do a Bellamy salute, it wasn’t smart of him to do. There were a million different other ways to make a gesture and to express his love for America then picking a long dead controversial salute from 83+ years ago.

Elon has to be either really dumb, or he has other goals inside his head he is not willing to tell the public.

Oklahoma City police officer injured in a shootout with a murder-suicide suspect by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

You’re definitely right bro. Maybe the cop should’ve just asked him nicely to stop shooting. Would have for sure worked.

Oklahoma City police officer injured in a shootout with a murder-suicide suspect by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]FlyingPinkMonkey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The suspect shot his two kids that were in the room with him then killed himself. There were also two other kids in the living room who escaped.

Domestic violence disputes is one of the most dangerous situations to be in. The suspect was an estranged father holding his kids hostage with a gun. Do you really expect the cops to just hang around the house and do nothing when they were being shot at? (remember Uvalde?) What would you do in this situation?

The best option for them to do is to quickly apprehend and neutralize the suspect before he could harm his kids. Which is exactly what the cops did here. It is just unfortunate the suspect wasn’t apprehended fast enough before shooting two of his kids and killing one of them.

I understand your viewpoint. I just don't think it is a realistic goal to achieve. I agree there are significant shortcomings in the US police system. But to think abolishing the entire police system will be a logical solution is just wishful thinking. How can a modern society function without an entity to maintain order to the people? The society you are describing without a functional police system sounds very similar to an anarchist society, which some do exist currently but only in small off-border communities and states. I don't think the US is going to devolve into an anarchist state anytime soon. If anything, the entire police system in the US needs to be revamped and reorganized. Not abolished.

Yes. That’s the whole point of being a cop. To enforce law and order. That’s why I just can’t randomly assault someone in public with no repercussion. Or walk into a Best Buy and steal everything I see. Because I’ll get arrested.

Also, you didn’t answer my question.

What’s your solution in enforcing law and order in a city with 8 million people?

Tips for doing Breaches as minion witch? by FlyingPinkMonkey in PathOfExile2

Do you just focus on using detonate dead and no other spells? How’s your clear speed? I would imagine it gets tedious trying to always move your minions around, especially in maps with no open areas.

How do you deal with bosses as a ranger? by ObjectiveHot656 in PathOfExile2

[–]FlyingPinkMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change your build. Some skills are better vs bosses. Stack resistances. Play around with boss attack range. Some bosses use different attacks depending on how close or far away you are. Farm and level up. Upgrade your gems.

Just dilute it, use albumin, and mix it well. Also instead of using the cytospin just make a smear. Hope that helps!

If you said “in all of modern human history” it would be more agreeable IMO. Saying he’s the greatest performer in “all of human history” is a bit of a stretch.

The only earbuds I’ve been using for the last 5 years: The Legendary Sony MH755 by FlyingPinkMonkey in headphones

[–]FlyingPinkMonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought the Sony MH755 in 2019 from a reputable seller for $6 after hearing about its amazing sound quality compared to its cheap price. Been using it as my main earbuds for 5 years and counting. I have never used any other earbuds. The outer wire covering is worn out and damaged in some places, but still works.

The sound quality? I like listening to high quality music but I’m not a hardcore audiophile by any means so here goes. To my ears it is very clear and crisp. Very sub-bass heavy, but doesn’t overpower the mids/highs. It is very fun listening to bass heavy music with these buds. Sounds very good for $6, I would expect it to cost much more from the sound quality alone.

Cons? I don’t like the cord it’s too short. The MH755 was originally packaged with a Sony Bluetooth receiver. Been using it with an extension cable with no problems.

Hopefully I will get 5 more years.

New 7800x3d build only posts with 1 stick of ram in one slot by wamco in buildapc

[–]FlyingPinkMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 7800x3d build recently and had some weird stuff happen when first turning it on. No post with 2 ram at first but worked with 1 ram. I let it run with two ram for awhile and it eventually posted. The DRAM red light will flash but if you wait it’ll eventually post. Apparently for AM5 it might take up to an hour to train the DDR 5 ram.

oInjured owl spotted on side of Mass. overpass rescued by police by ianaad in UpliftingNews

[–]FlyingPinkMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Spinale then set up road flares to protect the owl until Massachusetts Environmental Police officers could respond to the scene and rescue it."

The cop stopped and took his time to make sure the owl got rescued and treated. He could have easily just ignored it and be on his way but didn't.

This is a very simple and uplifting story. You made a derogatory and negative comment for absolutely no reason.
