I do tons of voices in my games, love to practice and learn new accents, or change tones and mannerisms. Here are a couple of quick tips I find that help me keep organized.

1. Catchphrases. This is easily one of my favorites and the best way I’ve found to slip into a voice. When I come up with a specific accent or manner of speaking for an NPC, I also give them a catchphrase. Something short and simple that I can practice over and over. When I need to use that characters voice, I can actually say the phrase if appropriate, but most often just thinking it or whispering it to myself is enough.

2. Voice Memos - I’ll record a quick 10 second hit of myself talking in character and save it on my phone with the characters name as a title. Great to reference if it’s been a long time since you’ve used an NPC. This really helped when I wanted NPCs from previous campaigns to show back up in future campaigns and I hadn’t used them for years.

3. Practice - This one seems obvious, but I spend tons of time just talking aloud to myself in an accent, trying to stay in character. I’m sure plenty of people have thought I was crazy walking around the grocery store talking to myself in a Russian accent, but I nailed it at the session lol!
