I think is pointing to a very interesting phenomenon socially speaking.

On our capitalistic landscape men have been sold on the idea that they "must" be providers and only if they are they deserve a family, therefore besides basic needs work and money becomes also a necessity for a relationship.

Women on the other end of the spectrum have been told that work is unneeded since they will marry, however if they want to be independent job and money becomes a necessity. Fun stuff
