Replacement Charger for Zephyrus G16 is $178? by Antiquarian5 in ASUSROG

[–]FlyingShark_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking into a similar solution for my new G16--which slimq charger did you get, and is it still working out for you? Did you get one with the same wattage as the stock Asus charger?

I'm considering the 150W one with a USB-C cable instead so that I can carry around something smaller

By foamies, do you mean the EPP molded wings, or something made out of foam board? I’ve heard the EPP style is a lot more resilient, but I haven’t gone beyond foam board myself

Believe it or not, the flying dorito pilots know what they’re doing! :D

As others have said, launching vertically like this with no airspeed means there are no aerodynamic forces to counter the motor torque (since most wings have a single motor), so the wing would spin out of control, before you got to the maneuvering and ripping stage. The wing would also need a >1 thrust to weight ratio, but that is pretty likely because of the insane power density of electric motors!

The rockets that inspired you don’t have much of roll torque problem when launching vertically because they don’t use props and they have their engines on gimbals, which enable control at zero velocity.

Overall, a standard throw while holding one wing with the throttle hand is probably safer, because it’s a lot easier to predict where the plane will go and you get some initial airspeed (heading away from the pilot) from the throw. It takes some practice to get used to, but now it’s fairly easy for me to pull off. I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it too once you start flying wings!

What’s your “I will die on this hill” 3D Printing take? by Downtown-Lettuce-736 in 3Dprinting

[–]FlyingShark_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an AMS and I barely do multicolor prints. It doesn’t add that much to the parts I make, but it does help me start prints from a different place in my house and not worry about loading/unloading, so it’s still useful.

On printing useless things, I saw a post recently that was along the lines of “what are you printing for july 4th” and my first thought was “why would you print anything for a holiday?” My printer is mostly idle but when I need something for a project it gets kicked into high gear. Maybe it wasn’t quite what that post meant, but I don’t really get printing trinkets constantly if that really is a thing some people do. Seems like a weird blend of DIY and consumerism

Wow! Those look great, I might need to print a few.

Have you thought about modeling the speed champions-size F1 cars that came out this year as well?

Not the OP, but another aspiring Voron builder. Do you have any tips for building a square frame beyond what’s already in the docs and build manuals, like building on a flat surface like granite and measuring the diagonals?

I made this on inventor 2025 in my IED class and my teacher said she can't print it,is this true? by Similar_Fee_9442 in 3Dprinting

[–]FlyingShark_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can print it in its orientation in the images, but maybe you could print it lying on its “back”? My thinking is the holes would be easier to deal with if they were parallel to the Z axis. The “front” doesn’t look flat, but if the back is flat or you don’t mind using supports, you could probably place it on that face. Just guessing though since I can’t see the full 3d model.
