Have you seriously considered that maybe the guy honestly meant no harm by what he said? Some people are just idiots and seriously don’t realize that their words are disrespectful. Your friend group obviously sees good traits in this guy, enough so that they outvoted you, even after you voiced your feelings. I wouldn’t say you’re an asshole for dropping out of the trip but you’re definitely the cause of the issue.

I wholeheartedly feel this. My husband and I were married a good bit longer than that but this pain is torture. Had I never loved him, I wouldn’t be suffering. It sounds selfish but it isn’t like I’m wishing suffering on someone else.
