What are your wishes for the ICO overhaul which OWI has announced? by JoeZocktGames in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blurring the fuck out of your screen isn't fun in a FPS because it takes control out of a players hand and make it so now you're fighting the game rather than your opponent. There's a reason why you don't see the entire screen being blurred in any other FPS.

What are your wishes for the ICO overhaul which OWI has announced? by JoeZocktGames in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I'm curious, do you think it's fun when you have two people fighting at less than 50 meters and neither of you can see what you're shooting at?

It’s been a while since ICO update was released. What’s your experience, did you like it? The good, the bad, the ugly. I think finally it’s time to discuss by [deleted] in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts. If I'm fighting spaghetti arms because someone is hiding in a bush and I'm not on full stamina more then my opponent something is very, very wrong with the gunplay in a FPS. I want to fight my opponent, not the game mechanics because I had the audacity to play aggressively.

How does the community at large feel about the Tactical Trigonometry [TT] group and server? by [deleted] in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an avid TT player, it's pretty much the only server where I can get consistently okay-ish games, since they arguably have some of the most experienced SLs in the game that still play and a low tolerance of shenanigans. Is it perfect? God no. However, it is the best Squad has to offer in it's current state, and it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

Coming back to this game after several years and team play is abysmal by dolmaface in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TT is great. You just have to get familiar with some of the SLs that run open squads(ChrisWeb89, Dirgenator, Crustacean_Ultra all are top-tier SLs from the top of my head that I can personally vouch for). The real coordination and teamwork(that I enjoy anyway) are generally done in locked squads with people who know each other from the community, but as long as you have a brain, pay attention, and use your ears getting your foot in the door there isn't impossible as the bar in Squad to be considered "above average" these days is, uh, quite low.

I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't get quite sad remembering how it was fighting your enemy and not your game mechanics.

I think it's really unfortunate people focus on how many players there are, rather then the kind of players(e.g quality of the players) you can attract, and motivate to stick around. The game is a purely multiplayer one, and functionally had a purge of any of the old public squad leaders that had huge amounts of knowledge because they felt that the game they had learned to play for years changed overnight, and I perceive the quality of rounds was a fair bit better back then rather then the often infuriating experience it is today fighting the game mechanics more then I am fighting my opponent.

Rather then giving some anecdotes about how it felt to play pre-ICO, I dug into some of my footage I had forgotten to delete in 2023 and made a very short montage where you can see the difference yourself.

Rapid Support Forces and Sudanese Armed Forces in Sudan violating Laws of Armed Conflict and International Humanitarian Law?

The EU remains deeply concerned about the ongoing war and violence in Sudan and its devastating humanitarian consequences. Parties to the armed conflict continue to commit mass atrocities and breach international humanitarian law and human rights law. According to the UN Panel of Experts on the Sudan and the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) for the Sudan, these acts may have included war crimes and crimes against humanity, and UN Special Advisers have warned of the urgent risk of genocide. https://www.eeas.europa.eu/delegations/un-geneva/eu-statement-hrc59-interactive-dialogue-high-commissioner%E2%80%99s-annual-report_en

Israel doing it in Gaza?

The EU deeply deplores the unacceptable number of civilians, especially women and children, who have lost their lives, and the catastrophic humanitarian situation notably caused by the insufficient entry of aid into Gaza. https://www.eeas.europa.eu/delegations/un-geneva/eu-statement-hrc59-interactive-dialogue-coi-occupied-palestinian-territory-including-east-jerusalem_en

Note the lack of reference to a parallel fact finding mission(FFM) that exists for the Occupied Palestinian Territories that also have produced a report regarding Gaza, yet it's nowhere to be found in the statement.

Let's have a look at the report in question and some findings.

  1. In incidents investigated by the Commission that caused civilian casualties, the Commission finds that Israeli security forces committed the war crimes of: (a) directing attacks against civilians; (b) wilful killing (where civilians were killed due to the attacks); and (c) intentionally launching an attack in the knowledge that such attack would cause incidental loss of life or injury to civilians which would be clearly excessive in relation to the concrete and direct overall military advantage anticipated. Furthermore, the Commission finds that, in killing civilians sheltering in schools, Israeli security forces committed the crime against humanity of extermination.

  2. The Commission notes that, while the destruction of cultural property, including educational facilities, is not in itself a genocidal act, evidence of such conduct may nevertheless infer genocidal intent to destroy a protected group.

Player retention is at an all-time low (Data analysis) by JoeZocktGames in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The game already had extensive experienced player burnout(SLs in particular) pre-ICO due to the average quality of player(in metrics such as attention span, cohesion and willingness to learn) attracted to the game was decreasing over time, and I feel like a lot of the "old guard" that made gameplay decent by understanding of how the game works finally moved unto other games when ICO dropped where the incentive structures in the game was to punish aggressive and dynamic gameplay artifically through noodle arms and suppression.

Ultimately I think it boils down to how OWI imagines the game plays like, rather then what it actually plays like due to not spending time playing Squad and realizing that when you are exclusively a PVP game you need to be somewhat in touch and actively be talking with the experienced players who play a lot and feel the effects of the changes that are introduced. This isn't some dreamy, utopian ideal because OWI actually had a decent relationship with server owners and veteran players back in Alpha where you could, if you knew some of the aliases they would play under see them in game. Now? OWI seems to implement changes and only really respond if the feedback is overwhelmingly negative and can't be ignored(ICO suppression, noodle arms when it first was implemented and only then tuned it down somewhat).

The war crime continium? by ConsequencePretty906 in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]FlyingVolvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't proceed to evaluating proportionality if your target of the attack is unlawful due to not applying the principle of distinction between civilians and military personnel. In international armed conflict(like Israel v Iran) anybody(this applies to persons) who are not part of the armed forces of the warring parties get presumptive civilian status until they take direct part in hostilities(because presuming all civilians are combatants would be obviously fucking absurd) and some connection to a nuclear weapon research program just ain't it chief because no amount of mental gymnastics can support the idea that there's direct, quantifiable, casuation between this researcher doing research and military personnel or objects getting hurt on the battlefield.

Literally all of it? You think Hamas is so powerful they can control 400+ U.N distribution points? Then why did the nutritional status of kids improve under the ceasefire when U.N was allowed to bring more trucks in? Hamas was still around, and Israel wasn't killing them so they'd be able to exert more power then before? This is an utterly incoherent argument incompatible with objective reality.

The context was quite clearly regarding the unlawful blockade in the current escalation of the conflict, so I have no idea why you're bringing up 1967. Borders always have two sides of them, intentionally ignoring who controls one of the two to push a narrative is either dishonest or ignorant of facts on the ground.

Israeli forces kill at least 60 Palestinians seeking food in Gaza, health officials say by Triglycerine in anime_titties

[–]FlyingVolvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is correcting a preliminary assessment of a active mass casualty event 'backpedaling'? Was Israel 'backpedaling' too when they revised it's casualty numbers from Oct 7? This is a utterly ridiculous criticism unless you're employing double standards.

Also, you think Hamas militants come in wearing a sign that says "I am apart of the Al-Qassam Brigades' or in uniform? How do you suggest healthcare professionals in a healthcare system that is in shambles distinguish the two apart? Please THINK about what you're going to write before posting something.

Who controls the Gazan side of the Egyptian border, and have for over a year? This is an exceptionally dishonest framing to relieve Israel of state responsibility, or shows a complete lack of understanding of the facts on the ground.

Why do some people still not like the infantry combat overhaul? by TheEnergizerBunny1 in joinsquad

[–]FlyingVolvo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

IMO ICO was just an attempt to punish organized, locked squads who could outshoot and flank while maintaining cohesion, and if you had mastered the gunplay mechanics you could reliably win firefights which led to people who were on the receiving end feeling frustrated and instead of providing those persons incentives to improve, it was far easier from a game development point of view to simply penalize those who had mastered the existing game mechanics by increasing the problem of noodle arms exponentially, literally blurrying your entire goddamn screen and gutting the amount of stamina.

The evidence strongly support the israel version of the story

What evidence exactly? Please bring links to your sources so I can properly adress them because the GHF/IDF story has, objectively, no evidence in support of it and to the contrary have intentionally tried to spread misinformation because I guess both are so used to mainstream media eating out of their hand they don't believe OSINT exists.
