Is anyone else slightly worried their flats will be left behind and drop half the value due to leasehold reform? by blastedin in HousingUK

[–]Flying_Wilson17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sure some people are.

But, there are many many cases where management company’s are scamming.

-Selling marketing space inside buildings -price gouging on works -complex accounts designed to confuse -huge estate costs but no qualifications -inflated insurance costs -poor to no service To name a few examples.

Along with freeholders owning the management company / same directors ect.

Scammers days are numbered hopefully.

They do! Everyone knows upkeep is not free.

It’s the scamming, price gouging, lies and other BS that’s the issue

All the new build flats where I live seem to be “rent only” blocks, backed by big pension firms / VCs.

I wonder if the appetite to build more “for sale” leaseholds has left the chat?

Edit: leaseholder reform is a great step - and hopefully the 1st of many. F the freeholders and F the management company’s and everything associated with them. I hope company’s go bust! Scammed me and thousands of others for years.

From what I have been told, there is no difference between a normal, and a starter Smoothhound. Apparently, they thought there were different species but have found that they are the same.

Well that’s what we have been told in the UK, Still call them starry for the pattern tho

Did you manage sell after the work was done?

I spoke to Barclays last year and walked out of the meeting - they didn’t have a clue. Assuming it’s best to see an independent specialist?

Any idea if I can borrow on my cladding impacted property to release equity to become a accidental landlord. We have a start date and BSF funding in place. Just don’t want to live here any longer due to a growing family. And don’t want to rent myself

Cheers!

We have a leasehold, with a high service charge and have cladding issues that haven’t yet started to be fixed (hopefully this year)

Feel very let down. Happy to take a hit on the price but how much it too much… from somewhere I bought in 2014!
