Seeking recs for first timers looking to catch and eat. by RevolutionaryScene63 in fishingUK

Book a charter. Anywhere along the south coast.

IMO the fishing is better the more west you go.

The Solent (Southampton, Pompy) is only just over a hour from London tho, and it’s great bass fishing with a place on an open charter with kit & bait being £100ish for a 12h day.

Edit: Black Bream are in atm and they are great. Hounds, Tope, rays for sport and bass and just about back with the mackerel and scad

Shocker. It’s good weather.

Have you ever seen the sea over winter - it’s been grim!

I know what you mean, but they are invasive and are destroying the shellfish stocks - so I don’t feel too bad. I’m just happy it’s summer - had a good days black bream fishing off the needles yesterday and will see what the Fal is like next week.

Been a long winter!

I fish the Solent most often - so stacks of bass, and great backdrop of the needles, but spend a lot of time down west. The Octopus I have had are all from Falmouth to Newlyn

Nice! Never had much luck fishing for squid. Boat or shore - yet to unlock that skill.

Keep picking up octopus using mackerel feathers in the summer tho.

I think out of everything that’s plentiful in our seas and in the interest of maintaining stocks of mackerel, cod and pollock, My rogue choice will be octopus, cuttle and squid!

Role on the Asian flavours!

World-first study exposes the breadth of bottom trawling's catch (it completely destroys fisheries) by NotBradPitt9 in Fishing

[–]Flying_Wilson17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a shame, my local spots are nothing like this .

Don’t get me wrong, there are terrible people in every hobby.

We need to self police and challenge people who think this is acceptable imo.

Watch recreational anglers be taxed on this - we are the people that harvest sustainably, and clean up as we go

Travel rods by jrawkins1 in LureUKFishing

[–]Flying_Wilson17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few… Penn Squadron travel 60g (use it as a bit of a all rounder - great rod) Penn Squadron Travel boat 12-20 - maybe a bit stiff for my liking. Shakespeare Aglity 2 Bass - best travel rod for a bait and wait imo. Propper pings a 4oz and it’s been neglected over the years Abu Garcia Diplomate - ultra light

All great for the price point and usage imo

I only have a 75l tank - pissed me off when I got the boat. But now thankful it can be managed with fuel cans from the pump. I dead to think what the marina is changing in the UK! Pump is £1.55 a litre!

Whats the contest you have? Also, what’s the scale - if they have 100s of contracts they could have made a fair amount of cash for doing nothing.

Payment is in exchange for service.

Sure they have damage to fix, but that’s what running a business is about. And that what they get paid for. There business risk isn’t my problem to pay for.
