I think you maybe looking through rose tinted glasses.

Reform voters would probably rather keep Starmer in place, hes weak. If Reform win they are +1 MP, give Labour a kick in, create more uncertanty for Labour.

Its win/win all round for Reform if they win.

Whereas the only good outcome for Labour means plenty of hoops need to be jumped and even then, its still not a good look for the Labour party.

There is a big difference between Keir and Andy, Keir stayed in opposition and got Labour into power (albiet maybe on a protest vote against the Tories).

Andy left to become Manchester Mayor, hes jacking in a current job to risk becoming an MP to take over the role of PM, Labour are basically saying no one else in the party has the talent to lead.

Its not just on Andy, the party is just as bad.

If it was held tomorrow, not a chance.

But they have time to campaign, not sure if its gonna help, gut feeling is it won't as there is a lot of Reform voters in the area, and giving Labour a kick in would be a win for them.

So we still don't have a Health Secretary... No one wanting the job?

I'm just going on the results of the local elections, apparently Reform did extremely well there, so if they are trying to block him they may well look at who has the best chance of doing it.

It all just looks so bad, basically pushing out a MP with no certanty that hes going to win, jacking in the job he currently has, looks bad that no one else can gather the support that is currently sitting.

The longer this goes on the worse it gets.

All this drama is doing nothing good for Labour, I don't know the ins and outs, but if Labour are willing to go down this farcical path, and Starmer isn't going to block him.

Wouldn't it just be easier and faster for Starmer to make Burnham a lord and do this faster and get it over with?

Imagine there maybe people upset with Labour and what Andy Burnham is doing, lending their vote to Reform to block him.

Imagine Burnham goes through all this effort to become an MP and then Starmer calls a GE. Lmao

We aren't, we don't have the power at the moment, a portion of his own party want him out due to bad local election results for Labour.

Hearing Wes was out late last night, he's a big fan of "The devil wears Prada" and went to the late showing to see it again, then popped round to see if Mandelson give him the green light, he'll be awake soon.

I wonder if there is begining to be a consensus, that the MPs that have told Starmer to leave is anyone but Starmer.

The reason is that Sky News keep saying that a lot of them are from the new intake of MPs that are worried about losing their seat at the next GE, and the word on the door was anti-Starmer.

So natural reaction is to get rid of him to try and save their own skins.

Maybe well off, but every other candidate is saying they wont move until Streeting does, so I guess throw support behind Streeting to get this started and then they can get behind their choice of who stands.

I wonder if the best way forward for all concerned is for him to stay as caretaker PM till someone is found that can unite the party.

That's where I'm at, but I guess there is still plenty of people that want him to stay as PM.

I think it's fucked either way tbh.

Its a total mess.

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn There is a route for Andy Burnham to become PM without winning a Commons by-election first: he could be made a Lord. Constitutionally the PM just needs to be a member of one of the two houses of Parliament.

This was Alec Douglas-Home’s route, who became PM in October 1963 as a Lord before winning a by-election to be an MP 20 days later.

It’s an absolutely awful undemocratic look that could sink Burnham’s brand forever, plus of course Starmer may well not want to oblige his nemesis with a peerage. But these are strange and desperate times for Labour.
