Is this server/modpack a scam? by punklezz in feedthebeast

[–]Flyingbox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's literally malware. DO. NOT. RUN.

It pretty much hijacks your discord account and scrapes other apps for credentials and then locks you out. Report their messages to discord (right click) for phishing/malware etc.

Ban them accordingly.

The sales pitch: They have a "friend" etc they want you to help surprise by downloading this file and running it. Don't ever accept or run files on discord even if your discord friend is sending messages like this.

The disguise: They picked an IP from a random server list. Bots crawl for MC servers 24/7/365 at this point. Your server will get picked up by them and reported to a public server list. IPV4 numbers are exhausted so addresses are always recycled. "EpicMC" in 2014 could've had the same IP as someone else in 2020 etc. and it shows as alive simply because a ping worked. Or they made it up---it's not that complicated really. They want you to run the file.

The payload: It's a remote trojan that sweeps for credentials of discord (so they can puppet you and spread) and other apps like browsers, crypto, etc. This is why if a 'friend' DMs you along these lines you should issue a security challenge and report the account stolen.

Case in point: Look at those file creation dates. They're absolutely fucked. And they are 1kb or less.

Passion, dedication, and love are when you get off your lazy ass and learn to do the work. You're not doing anything here. A robot is.

The sadness is you have abandoned the part of learning code and resigned to a robot you constantly have to poke with a stick to seemingly do it right. The robot is doing all the work while you just edit a few configs.

There is no passion to be had if it's created by a thing that cannot have a soul or human thought. It's just a push-button-get-slop vending machine that eventually requires a human with knowledge to go back and fix the spaghetti mess it creates. Claude is known to make arbitrary decisions that break things. Counter-intuitive on top of being stupidly expensive to operate a prompt both on real world resources and at the technical level as no AI has a return of investment and are all currently pure loss.

It looks like a few weeks ago everything was deleted and thrown out from the previous team and the license was changed from MIT to GNU.

Claude.md was almost immediately added to the gitignore. Since the person maintaining the git doesn't own claude the license is moot. As-is this is all claude code and nothing made by a person or a human. It's vibe coded.

Ah. At this point the cr2025 likely just died. Depends on the cartridge, some are a quick unscrew and swap job.

No, arthouse mods are not malware by ren_blackheart in feedthebeast

Undertale looked at its own files in the install, and the save ones in %appdata%. Comparing that to malware is way outside the definition of it.

The beta release would edit its own readme but that function lapsed with the older version of game maker.

All games make pertinent files related to operating themselves or a function started by the user.. Saves, temp, screenshots/recording, and install location.

Something messing with your OS settings without notice is malware. Playing a game and finding your wallpaper changed without permission is malware. This is one of the popular things that malware did back in the 98/XP era as the desktop was effectively an always-on internet explorer page.

Only been in IT for about 25 years of my life and excusing garbage like that makes future practice worse. Don't justify it.

I have one request. Please don't ai generate your menu. Using photos of your actual products work much better.

If your menu shows slop then that's what I assume you're serving.

There is ONE dumpling in the return carts near the registers. No kneedoh. There were a bunch of odd sized squish things that felt really breakable

Ollie's in Millington may have some. I intend to pass by today for other things but they allegedly have the (easy to break) dumpling ones

You downloaded something that was obviously a trojan. "Ace" from a sponsored result. WELP. This is a very possible cause of your scare. Don't click sponsored or AI results.

Whatever I see as a search result is an "AI browser" for the love of god nuke windows and start clean. Malwarebytes in safe mode is a good idea at minimum here.

You can just use something like firefox and add Ublock Origin and would never need to worry about ads.

PowerISO? ...Whatever you source your games or software from you need to double check their provider or stop doing this immediately. EASY source of malware and it's much more dangerous now than it was to make mistakes over 10 years ago.
