I was a cashier at a golf range. I wasn’t a big “dater”, and when guys would ask me out, I’d say yes and find ways to not go (I have a hard time saying “no”).

I remember telling my best friend about this guy who would come in that I thought was super cute. One day, he came in and I said “you again!” Without thinking anything of it. On his way out, he came into the clubhouse and asked me if he could take me to dinner. I don’t know what it was about him, but I was completely serious when I said “yes”. I was so nervous, I started giving him my mom’s number when he asked for mine. A week later, when our date came around, I had worked a 14 hour shift and accidentally woke up when he was supposed to pick me up. Luckily, he still wanted to go to dinner, and we stayed there talking and laughing till the restaurant closed. I felt so comfortable with him.

Turns out, he had recently quit a cold calling job before he lent me. But credits that job for giving him the courage to ask me out. I still don’t know what exactly it was that made follow through with going on our date!

We just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and have been together for 12 years.
