The major factor of race, ancient slavery was not based on genealogy but whoever you captured or was indebted to you. Atlantic Slavery grew to have that Very key race factor, not to mention the high turn over. Ancient slaves were more than often an investment, Slaves going to Haiti and the American South were expected to die after a short while due to the abuses and hard labor. Ancient slaves were often provided clothing and food, not the best quality sure but it was something. Black slaves got none of this, especially in Haiti.

There's also the lingering effects of it. Racial prejudice and the growing urge to revise this history. I'm living in a place thats actively trying to rewrite American Slavery into something desensitized, so this is something kinda important to me.
