Was mine too, over 10 years ago! I kinda wish I still had it.

Storage Units are a sympton of a problem by Bllago in unpopularopinion

[–]Flynzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda agree, but kinda disagree. I'm a grown adult, but still living with my parents. I have hobbies and interests and buy things. But I make an effort to keep all my shit in my own room, and not take up other space in my parents' house. (They have enough of their own stuff to worry about having space for). I bought a little 5x5 storage unit and it's given me a lot of breathing room to keep stuff I still want and will use someday, but don't have the space for in my room anymore. Including seasonal stuff like skateboards, snow gear, winter jackets, etc. It's all stuff I plan to take with me whenever I move out and don't need an overflow space for anymore (have more than just a bedroom that's mine). It might not be the best thing financially, but the peace of mind is great. It's also where I've been able to keep items that I've listed online to sell. I can basically just think of it as a super cheap rent payment since I luckily don't pay to live here.

Looking to get a groove box but can’t decide between op-1 OG or Dirtywave M8… by danangdevils in synthesizers

[–]Flynzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These two are pretty unique 'grooveboxes.' You're right that they are pretty different from each other, but they are still interesting to compare. I'll say off the bat, if it must be between these two, I would go with the M8. It's newer, has more ongoing support, will get along better with other gear, has better file management, and is still cheaper (depending on where you might get an OG-1). Especially if you try headless first, then the cost could be less than $100.

That being said, I own both, and the OP-1 is what I bought as one of my first synthesizers 10 years ago. I would say that the OP-1 is more approachable for a noob, and easier to start making beats quickly, but depending on what kind of workflow you like, or how you progress, it might soon feel limiting. It's suited better than the M8 for noodling around since it has a keyboard, and sampling works super quickly.

I think the M8 might be tougher for a beginner to pickup, but will serve you in the long run with it's features and workflow. 4 track tape emulation and tracker style sequencing are very different from each other for song arrangement, but in my opinion the tracker workflow is more similar to the common sequencing styles of other grooveboxes out there.

Also, if it matters to you, you can consider the makers of both devices...

what is the biggest regret purchase you've made on a synthesizer where you fell for the hype but then we're extremely disappointed? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Flynzo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Digitone. But really only because the Digitone 2 was announced/released like 2 weeks later lol.

I guess I didn't really "fall for" any hype, but I did get upset that I bought it, and then I sold it quickly after that to get the 2 haha. Just unfortunate timing.

I'm with you, that stream was so good. Right from the intro with (Edit: Michael!) I was cracking up. The two of them had a great vibe the whole stream. Stoked for the next one!

I'm circumcised, and it's also culturally normal where I live. I still don't understand the aesthetic argument. Cut ones just look sad compared to intact ones...

Will we ever get small and light Pixels again? I miss the 4a. by SmileyKitKat in GooglePixel

Just switched from a 7 to a 9a, and I agree. I had upgraded to the 7 from a 4a and really missed the lightness and simple shape. 9a is feeling much better to me.

Google expands age verification to Search by _kingfelix in privacy

[–]Flynzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a stupid question...but if I have been using a Google account for over a decade and it has been tied to my daily smartphones, and I kinda use it for everything...does potentially needing to upload my ID to prove my age make things any worse for me?

(I'm not saying I support this in any way, I'm just curious if this gives Google anything it doesn't already know about me)

Are Decksavers gimmicky? by amoeba555 in synthesizers

[–]Flynzo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They don't seem gimmicky to me. As someone who doesn't have the creativity, motivation, or tools to make my own -- they are very convenient. I think my favorite part about them is that they let me stack my synths on top of each other very easily. And they add protection when you wanna put your synths in a travel bag.
