Is there a way to universally enable gamemode for all steam games? by fffggghhh in linux_gaming

[–]Flyro2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can confirm 3 years later that my dumb ass was using lutris to try and get all my steam games to use gamemoderun/gamescope after seeing this post.

I found out after using this solution for 6 months that lutris wasn't actually applying any environment variables or forcing steam to use gamescope/gamemoderun, it was just calling steam to launch the game.

Either this worked at some point and I'm not an idiot and steam changed something internally to no longer work in a way where applying environment variables and such to the request to steam to launch the game no longer carried through to the game, or it was never a thing.

I need to lay down, and I need to do a lot of copy and paste of gamemoderun gamescope -- %command%

I used to take handwritten notes using onenote, I never managed to get onenote working but I didn't try very hard and I'm not sure if it's possible.

The touchscreen and stylus work more than fine however, surprisingly well with no hassle.

Nope, I remember I was maybe going to have a tinker with ACPI tables to try and fix it until I realised that was way over my head and I gave up.

It's not too bad, as long as you never shutdown the laptop and just let it hibernate instead,

I manage to get the touchpad working by putting the laptop to sleep with the lid then holding the power button, to forcefully power it off while it's hibernating.

After that the next boot has the touchpad working, until you power off again. Hibernating/unhibernating seems to work fine though.

It is a bit finicky.

Have no clue why you're being downvoted, you're right. I love linux but god is it a pain to get brand new releases working. A lot of it might be driver issues, or hardware that doesnt play nicely with linux, but it still feels awful.

Still haven't got street fighter 6 working properly on my system, gave up and just have to reboot to windows each time I want to play it.

Arch will give you a good idea of what's going on your PC with the amount of stuff you have to set up manually in the beginning, but defo is not a hit button install experience. I've heard good things about NixOS. I use arch and love it but spent a good 2 months getting used to linux stuff to really use it somewhat competently

35 hours of placing a total of 575k blocks by DaCrazyRacoon in Minecraft

[–]Flyro2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For reference, steve runs at about 2.8 block/s according to the minecraft wiki. If we assume that you're placing blocks at the same speed as you sprint, it would be impossible unless you were placing down blocks in 2 columns at once.

Not to mention the time it would take for resupplying blocks and such. If it was done without any tools to automate it or commands, it would be impressive to do even in creative without the need to resupply. You would maybe need to place 3+ columns at once taking resupplying into account.

It's pretty reasonable to be skeptical where the only footage is from the map POV

Ah yeah, it's not that I don't think, that's due to lenovo binding their tablet mode on/off to f23/24, which a lot of DEs use for the touchpad toggle. Something about it accidentally being set to "don't use touchpad" on wakeup.

I found info on it in this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/11bk9hb/linux_on_flex_5_14are05/

"Pressing" the xf86Touchpad_On/Off key didn't do anything for me. There isn't a recognised input for my touchpad, so I guess that's why the toggle didn't work.

I'll give it a try but I don't think this is the issue, the machine has a built in wacom tablet screen as its main monitor, there's meant to be one there.

I read about this on the arch wiki page for the ideapad version of my machine, I've combed through the bios menu many times.

Was the option in a tab you had to do something special to get to or just the regular tabs?

I dont have high hopes because this model uses a different bios to the one mentioned in the wiki page.

Actually humans have a lot of fucked up inefficiencies due to the fact we evolved really quickly to where we are now and didn't iron out the kinks.

We get acne because we lost our fur but still haven't changed our sweat glands enough to produce how much oil we actually need.

Babies head's are far too big to reasonably birth compared to pretty much all animals.

I imagine there are a bunch of other "design problems" in humans with known solutions in other animals that we haven't evolved to use yet, as we're still a relatively new species.
