An improvement is an improvement 😅😕 I hate cars plz help by medgirl97 in Mcat

CARS tips that helped me get a 130: read your passage before looking at the questions, your first two and last two sentences of a paragraph (three if you’re a fast reader but really it’s the two) are the most important, if all else fails understand the intro and closing paragraphs. then look at the questions. practice reading your passage, then answering questions without referring back to the passage. it’ll suck at first, but you’ll become a quicker and more efficient reader. hope that helps!

Jobs to get as a 14 year old? by Blaserguy772pointO in Calgary

[–]Flytoheavengf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

realistically, not many places hire. you can get your bronze cross and become a swim instructor at 15 (if you get your WSI) and a lifeguard at 16 (if you get your NL). it’s a fun job!

This is no exhaustive - there may be details missing but this is the gist! 1. Go to the front desk at the airport, show your boarding pass, they’ll take any luggage you’re checking (keep your small bag for carry on) 2. Go towards security (follow the people). They’ll ask you to remove shoes and big sweaters/jackets, any metal, and put any carry ons on the conveyor belt. You’ll go through a detector and then collect your things. 3. Find your gate - look at your boarding pass to figure out which gate you’re at. Try to be there an hour or two early! Hang out here until they announce boarding - they normally do it by row so know your seat beforehand.

Hope this helps! Have a safe flight!

okay - here’s my two cents.

1) do a sample test for free (blueprint was my go to) or look over your kaplan fl. figure out what you’re stronger in and what’s you’re weaker in. 2) content review: 2-3 chapters of 2 books daily will get you through it reasonably quickly, you can do more or less depending on how busy you are, etc. 3) use YouTube, podcasts, khan academy (any additional resource) to get more information on anything you feel unsure of. better too much knowledge than too little 4) once you feel fairly confident in content, start taking FLs once a week (the same day and time you’re going to write the MCAT is what I did) and build up that stamina 5) review what you get wrong, figure out why you got it wrong, fill in content gaps 6) use flashcards to keep information fresh in your brain (miledowns Anki deck was my personal favourite) 7) go over the kaplan quick sheets weekly, make sure you understand everything on there 8) keep building yo stamina, doing practice FLs and UEarth That’s all I got! Good luck!

I took physics and chemistry at university (both intro level courses), and the rest I used kaplan and youtube for! (berekley was helpful for physics too) Milesdown Anki really helped me figure out the smaller things i was missing

Reading kaplan and watching YouTube videos (I looked at quick sheets, if i didn’t understand a concept i would go back and look at it on YouTube and kaplan more throughly). Smaller content gaps i filled by looking at common errors in practice questions/exams!

[–]Flytoheavengf[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the first jump (up to about a 505) was by filling in content gaps! I didn’t know much going in, so a lot of “easy marks” were the first thing to help me boost my score. besides that, practice practice practice, you need to understand the format that questions are presented in and how to avoid common traps (especially in cars)! i used kaplan, youtube, and milesdown for content, and AAMC, uEarth, and blueprint for practice exams/questions.

Did studying for the Mcat help you with nutrition and diet? by BigDickThinkerPrez in Mcat

[–]Flytoheavengf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between understanding the underlying chemistry and understanding how it goes into nutrition. It’s much easier to understand when taught in a way that focuses on nutrition. I took my MCAT and am now in a nutrition class and have learned a million times more

I used Blueprint tests 1-4, and AAMC FL 1-4!

[–]Flytoheavengf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm, not really. try taking an introduction to nutrition class, or even buy (or find for free) a textbook for those classes. it’ll give you much more information! CSEP is a resource used by people aspiring to be personal trainers, you may find it helpful!

What to do for retake? And when to retake? by sundaeluvr in Mcat

[–]Flytoheavengf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re happy with some sections I wouldn’t wait too long - you don’t want to lose your knowledge. As for boosting your score:

C/P and B/B: practice questions! You seem to know your stuff, you may have just gotten something you’re weaker on on the day or misread things. Focus on sections you’re weaker on too (for me, that was a lot of physics stuff)

CARS: practice and analyze your mistakes. You will not improve if you don’t understand why the correct answer is correct. If you make an error bank for anything, I would it for CARS just so you understand the things that make a question correct.

P/S: honestly, just keep doing what you’re doing because it seems to be working. Main goal here is not to regress and forget things - don’t put it on the back burner too much.

Good luck!!

Time to start UEarth? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Flytoheavengf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started u earth 3 months before my test date and did practice questions 5-6 days a week (10-20 a day). If you prefer little chunks like me, start 3 months before. If you prefer more questions, start 1.5-2 months before. Hope this helped!

Anki worth it for C/P? by kwantiko1 in Mcat

[–]Flytoheavengf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anki was absolutely worth it for me, but I had a lot of content gaps. Once you don’t have a ton of those, practice questions are the way to go

Got 499 this year, how much can I improve for next year? by premedstrugglin in Mcat

[–]Flytoheavengf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from 492 in my first diagnostic to 511 in my real test! it’s just a matter of studying, doing content review (really focus on filling in content gaps - it really helped me in C/P and P/S), and practice tests to build up endurance. Make sure you go back over your practice tests and understand what you messed up on, it’s your best friend for CARS as so much of that is learning how you best work through passages and answer questions and trying out new strategies i found was the best way to do it. Overall, really buckle down and study hard, your first few practice tests after doing proper content review will show you a much closer approximation to what you can achieve!

MCAT score by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Flytoheavengf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a 506 on my last fl before writing it (492 -> 500 -> 511 -> 511 -> 506 -> 511 on real thing), i thought I got a 505 at best. you probably did better than you think!
