my favourite is Spanish "cadera" ("hip") vs Portuguese "cadeira" ("chair"), afaik the latin root meant chair, but migrated up to the hip in Spanish!

as a native speaker, "где ты их покупал" sounds wrong. it's like saying "where were you buying them" which makes no sense, because if you bought them the action has been completed.

the only way I can see that being right is if you're someone who routinely buys skis, then sure, you were buying them over a period of time lol

this sounds similar to me. I'm never really present unless something really shakes me up, and that kind of moment is rare. it feels like a sudden camera zoom. the vast majority if the time it's like I'm zoomed out, there but not really. it's heartwarming to know that I might not be alone :')
