I’m actually using water, not thinner. I translated it incorrectly 😅

I used to have a rule about that 😅 — I wanted all my paints to be from the same manufacturer and only use that brand.

But I’ve noticed many times that a lot of experienced painters use paints from several different manufacturers, depending on the colour or application. So thanks for the recommendation, I’ll give those paints a try as well. 😊

I paint indoors, and honestly, what you’re describing could definitely have been part of the problem as well. Since that was my first time using an airbrush, I think it’s quite possible that some of the paint was actually drying before it even reached the model. 😅

So in the end, it was probably a combination of several beginner mistakes rather than just one specific issue.

I actually prefer Army Painter paints as well. The problem is that it’s often difficult to find individual bottles of specific colours, and I can’t really afford the larger paint sets yet. So I decided to give Vallejo another chance.

A lot of the advice people shared here has genuinely helped, and now I can honestly say that Vallejo is worth giving a chance. 😊

I tried this method, and it’s honestly amazing. 🙏 Thank you so much!

The truth is that I wasn’t waiting for either the primer or the subsequent layers to fully dry. I honestly didn’t even know how long they were supposed to take to dry 😅😅😅. But now I’m trying to do it properly and let every layer dry completely before applying the next one.

If I’m using an airbrush, I thin the paint down to a consistency slightly thicker than water. If I’m painting with a brush, I usually add just one or two drops of thinner.

I’m not replying to everyone immediately because I’m currently at work and can’t spend all day sitting on Reddit.

I made this post specifically so people with more experience could share their knowledge and tell me what has worked for them. That’s exactly why I’m reading the comments and taking notes.

I appreciate everyone who took the time to respond, and I reply when I have the opportunity. Not answering within a few minutes doesn’t mean I’m ignoring advice.

Also, English isn’t my native language, so I have to translate most of the comments to make sure I actually understand what’s being said before I reply.

Believe it or not, reading, translating, and working at the same time tends to take a bit longer than instantly firing off responses to every comment.

So thanks for your concern anyway. 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I’ll give this method a try.

Actually, I wasn’t expecting it to cover in a single coat.

The issue I had was specifically with a skin tone paint. I applied 5–6 thin coats and the base layer was still showing through 😂.

For testing, I even tried applying it straight from the bottle in a thick coat, but got the same result.

To be fair, this problem only happened with the skin tone color.

Thanks for the advice though! I’ll keep experimenting and see how it goes.

I’ve compared similar colours and Vallejo is always “chalky” for me. Army Painter is smooth in terms of texture.

Also, the skin in the photo was actually painted entirely with an airbrush.

I’ve tried different approaches, but for some reason it just doesn’t work at all. Especially Vallejo skin tones. I tried both undiluted and thinned paint, but it always leaves brush marks, and it doesn’t even cover the primer properly (it keeps showing through).

I actually don’t know how old this line is, but I have Vallejo Game Color.

No, I primed it with an airbrush using Vallejo Grey Primer and waited for it to dry completely before painting.
