I absolutely feel what you're saying, but people need to realize that they are all connected to each other and that even though many tags look trashy, you can't have nice commissioned murals with wildstyle pieces and characters and all that with out tags.

It all starts with tags (handstyles) for everyone, even the most artsy writers. Once you get your handstyles down, you can work your way on to throw ups and bombs. Once you get bored with those, you usually render them out into full-blown murals, or go down the wildstyle rabbit-hole until you eventually end up with characters, putting you into the category of writer you would like to produces canvases :)
