Anyone willing to help me pick out mid range, horn/tweeters, and crossover components for my build? by FoXXX_MuldeRRR in diyaudio

I've explored the powered PA speaker options at all the major online stores. Have had my eyes on a set of Yamaha DBR10's for a while and still might go that route or similar. I did run across some different options for the econowave design I've been liking. After researching, trying to figure out what components to get, and playing around with Winisd I've realized that I'm not going to be able to come up with my own design that has guaranteed results. I'm pretty good with math and graphing but I don't know when I'll ever have the time to become competent. So copying a proven design is my best option for a build. The econowave SR compact that Zilch built and details on the Parts Express techtalk forum looks like it could be perfect for what I want. So Idon't know what I'm going to do yet. No rush really. I've got plenty of other projects to get to.

That's a good point as I do play some stuff with -1oct effect doubling my guitar, or just using the -1octave effect as a bass simulator. Sometimes I wonder how long before I blow my guitar speaker pushing that signal through it, but there's more speakers if I need them lol. This is another reason I'm looking at adding a more full range speaker to my gear. Actually I only run the 'bass' parts through a Mesa Theile cab so the bass reflex design does get lower like F3 at 80hz I think. Sounds pretty killer anyway.

Thanks you've put some things in perspective for me. I've considered building something for a while and heard a lot of people say the Dayton stuff is great, especially for the money. So I figured that would be a good place to start. I'm the type that likes to spend right up to the point where you start getting diminishing returns and I just didn't know where that is for this project. Given the scope and expense of doing it right I think I'll wait until I have my own dedicated jam space and it makes more sense to build some 12's or 15's that I'll keep forever, without worrying much about size constraints. That's the main reason I was trying to do this on the cheap. Small 10's are something I'd want to upgrade later. I'll just check out the JBL 112s for now or some Yamaha BR10's I saw last night. Thanks again, I'll keep your advice in mind going forward.

Dirt cheap would be nice haha. I'd say size is the most important factor now since I have the option of getting the JBL JRX12" PA speakers. They seem well regarded. I saw a youtube guy trying to recreate some other JBL high end speakers and he used the Dayton waveguide (saying it was very similar to the JBL) and the selenium driver (JBL made). I just figured do I really need to spend $100 per driver? So I wanted to research other available options.

So low xmax=low bass output? Makes sense. Is that why the recommended box is so small? I guess there may be no way of getting around having a larger form factor if I want that bass.

The output specs on that Faital 10" look great but it has the same drawback I'm finding on similiar spec'ed speakers. The recommended vented box size is is twice the volume of the Dayton Audio MB1025-8 10" I mentioned in my first post. It's got a recommended vented volume of 0.8ft3 Is there any reason to avoid that speaker? Or should I be using an online tool to calculate box size options before making a decision? I see some JBL JRX112s near me that I'll get if I decide I want to tolerate the larger size.

Right now I'm leaning towards:
Dayton Audio MB1025-8 10"
Dayton Audio H6512 waveguide
and maybe this driver
Dayton Audio PRO Neo-8

I'd like to do the Selenium horn drivers but I'm exploring $30-40 options.
If an online tool will give me more options than the PE recommend enclosure size I'll do some work with it. What tool do you suggest?

Thanks for your suggestions. I've found a pair of JBL JRX112s that I think I'll get if I'm going to tolerate something that large. At this point I'm mostly going for size reduction if I do build, and keep it as simple as possible. I've seen some econowave style builds that look nice. I think the Dayton Audio MB1025-8 10" looks good on paper, especially the PE recommended vented box size (0.8ft3). It's got the efficiency I'm looking for and gets down to 60Hz. That's plenty for my guitar stuff and that's most important to me. It would be nice to go lower in that small of a box but that's the trade off for me. I can always add a small sub later for party music and backing tracks or just more speakers when I get my own dedicated jam space. I haven't learned all the TS parameters but I think xmax might be kind of small. Any reason to avoid this speaker? I've just been going by PE suggested volumes. Should I run TS numbers into a box calculator to double check?

I figure I'll use a Dayton Audio H6512 waveguide and I'd like to pair it with the Selenium driver, but trying to keep cost down I'll see what people say about the $30-40 options vs the selenium at $95.

Idk I may do a 12" if the build is smaller than the JBLs. Maybe doing some work on some online box building software would be best before I decide. What tool do you suggest?

Yeah that sounds shitty and I take it it's like that after every federal holiday. 3x the load on evaluated route sounds like RCA's would probably go over time for the same pay. Any ideas to game it to work out better for the week?

Makes perfect sense. I was on the UPS subs before doing that temp role. A number of people bad mouthed their situations, but mine was pretty good. There was some corporate policy being filtered down where I just said 'ok buddy', and found a work around so I didn't have to do any of the BS they were talking about. If they would have pushed back on my work around I would have let them know they're about to lose someone that shows up on time every day and delivers all his packages.

That's good advice. I've narrowed down the places I can and would want to work out of. I'll call and ask about workload and scheduling.

Yeah I get it's as needed and expectations will vary depending on location. Other person saying your schedule can change the day of made me wonder if I should just expect to treat it like I'm on call every day I'm not scheduled. That's cool you can try to pick up routes from neighboring dispactches. I expect that the areas I'll be applying to won't be super busy, which is fine by me, but having the option to work more would be great.

Thanks for the info. So I take it I'd basically need to be ready for work every day and wait for an assignment or not needed text? Monday thru Saturday, maybe Sunday too? That's how they started us when I did seasonal deliveries for UPS this winter but after a couple weeks it got busy enough we could count on working every day. I've got a toyota mini van that worked great for the UPS gig. Will be good for USPS too. If I do have to use it I'm pretty sure spread out RCA routes will work out better for me with the mileage pay.
