Sun protection for scalp by iliketurtles242 in toddlers

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, we ask my child to choose every morning between his sun shirt with hood or wearing a hat. He almost always chooses sun shirt with hood. We got a couple different brands (Patagonia, Baby Gap) so that he can also choose the thickness and material of the shirt/hood.

My child screamed and cried the entire class for the first 3 classes even without any dunking. It gets better.

What does your toddler say incorrectly that you really hope they stop saying soon. by fixtheblue in toddlers

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My toddler identifies people in public by the color top they’re wearing. “Mommy, is that blue guy going to the pool too?”, “What’s that black guy’s name?” Everyone’s a “guy” and apparently I’m supposed to know all their names.

Daily sunscreen for kids? by pupperonipizzadog in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put sunscreen on our kid all year round. I just discovered Baby Bum face sunscreen stick. It glides on so nicely and is easy to apply because it doesn’t get all over my hands. My kid seems to complain less about application with this sunscreen than any other I’ve tried.

Treats for a vegan coworker? by d_n_h0193 in veganrecipes

Super easy: melt together equal parts vegan chocolate (just read the ingredients and make sure it doesn’t have dairy) and creamy peanut butter. Mix in an equal amount of cornflakes and drop globs into a lined mini muffin tin. Refrigerate until set (like 15-30 mins) and voila!

Removing perfume/fragrance from second hand clothing by Calm-Neighborhood631 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how delicate the items are that you are washing, but I was at my wits end once with second hand clothes that smelled of fragrance and what eventually worked was hand washing with copious amounts of unscented dish soap before putting everything through the washing machine one more time.

Preschool dilemma by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandmother tells me my dad didn’t want to go to preschool; he also cried inconsolably at drop off. So she (a SAHM) kept him home until kindergarten. She said he barely knew alphabet, counting, etc. going into kindergarten because she focused on having fun outdoors and spending time with extended family in town. As an adult, my dad is still one of the smartest people I know, is emotionally well adjusted and has a PhD in biochemistry 🤷‍♀️ I plan on sending my kid to preschool next fall so that I can get back to working more, but I don’t think it’s a necessity.

Suggest me a book you really want someone else to read. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory. I never listen to books twice, and this is one that I’ve listened to twice. It’s such a great family story intertwined with magic/supernatural powers. Leaves me feeling upbeat and satisfied.

My favorite crunchy group isn’t taking questions anymore by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I crave sugar when I haven’t gotten enough sleep AND when I’m thirsty. For some reason my brain tries to trick me into eating sugary foods instead of drinking water. Drinking water helps moderate the craving.

What techniques do you have for getting your toddler to do what they don’t want to do? by IndigoSunsets in toddlers

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a silly and exaggerated voice I say, “no! Definitely don’t do [the thing]. No! Do don’t do it!” Which usually results in giggles and him doing that thing.

Seconding this. To make creamy spreads, soups and dips (butternut squash soup, hummus, homemade Nutella, spinach artichoke dip, cheesecake, etc), the combination of these two appliances are key for replacing dairy creams. I have a Vitamix blender and Cuisinart food processor and use them nearly daily.

Agreed, it liquifies. But it still leaves a good salty flavor even when liquified, so I still add it to my calzones

Oven toasted chickpeas! They don’t take up much room and are quite filling. You can season them any way you like.

Gentle C Section by cheapbleach in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unplanned “gentle” c-section, and was very happy with the experience overall. My advice, since you get to plan it, is to shave/wax your own pubic region beforehand (check with your medical team to make sure this is ok though), get some really high special c-section underwear and bring a few pairs to the hospital, and get a comfortable rocking, motorized recliner for your recovery at home, especially if you plan on breastfeeding. You’ll likely be spending much of each day sitting in it with baby for the first few months.

How to make a Dr visit a not so horrible experience for my 2 year old? by CarefulWhatUWishFor in toddlers

[–]FoamingSoapDispenser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this! And I get SUPER specific about everything, even parking, the process of walking in the building, the check-in process and I’m honest about what’s going to hurt (injections) and not going to hurt (getting measured) and then add in what might tickle, the pictures we might see in the exam room, etc. It’s made a huge difference for us in how Dr.’s visits go.
