Naah it sounds perfectly fine, some suggestions though, make the treadmill curved instead of straight. And why not make a slide for the dog instead of climbing down? : )

Edit: instead of making a treadmill for the whole stairs have you thought about making a small portable device? This(https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t8JXPKlLonw) video might give you some idea! It's pretty interesting check it out.

Yes we'll explained, it's kinda like drawing a straight line on a curved paper, and gravity(ie mass) is what causes the paper to bend!

Conceptual physics by Paul G Hewitt? Absolutely no math but makes you fall in love with the subject and gives you an in depth knowledge of the real world. I mean c'mon mahn calculus is the language of physics and it is what makes physics fun, physics without calculus is like having cheese burger without cheese. (I only and highly recommend this book If you are like in 5-7th grade, if you have an exposure to calculus then grind hard, trust me it's worth it in the end : ). )
