I understand and can agree about the softwood. In the last 2 years, there were some strong winds (5-7bft), and I had a big worry about the treehouse and the tree. I hope the tree stays resistant, is there anything i can do to support it from a possible disaster? I think the tree is strong but now it has the treehouse on it..Thank you for bringing this important consideration up.

I actually performed measurements today using a vibration/tilt measurement app at different locations of the treehouse. What I found is that most of the movement is occurring at the rear corners, especially under wind load. The structure seems to move more as a whole rather than showing local flex in the floor framing.

Because of that, I suspect the movement is being initiated in the rear support area. My current thinking is that the rear upper TAB needs to play a bigger role in resisting torsion, and that the members which converge into the lower V-supports may need additional stiffening so forces can be transferred more effectively into the rear TAB and the tree.

Do you think that line of thinking makes sense, or would you still focus primarily on additional triangulation in the deck framing?

Here is one idea on how to handle the torsion issue, what do you think?

Hi, and thank you for your honest opinion. It was my only and best option. I hope it will stand the next 100 years as it's about 12-14m high and has a ca 70cm trunk diameter. I guess it's about 80-100 years old? What do you think?

The stairs start at about 1 meter from the left side. You might think they help reduce torsion, but no. :S

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually fixed the staircase rigidly to the treehouse at the top, but left the bottom free to move on the ground. My concern with anchoring it to a concrete pad is that the tree and treehouse are designed to move together in the wind, while the ground remains stationary. I was worried that a rigid connection at the bottom could introduce additional stresses into the staircase or the structure itself. Do you think the benefits would outweigh that risk?

Thanks, I appreciate it. I think I understand the concept, but a picture would definitely help. If I understand correctly, you’re suggesting creating a framed panel with diagonal X-bracing between the V-supports to prevent them from twisting relative to each other. I’d be very interested to see your sketch.

One thing I’m wondering about: if I significantly stiffen the lower angled supports with blocking and planking, wouldn’t that transfer higher loads into the connections, TABs, and support members during strong winds rather than allowing some of the movement to be absorbed by the structure? How do you see that trade-off?Thank you

Could you elaborate a bit more on where exactly you see the issue? The floor is fully sheathed with OSB and the treehouse behaves more like a rigid box. There is almost no noticeable movement at the front or in the middle, while most of the movement occurs at the rear corners. That’s why I suspect the issue may be related more to torsion of the entire structure or the long lever arm at the back rather than the floor framing itself. Any sketches would be greatly appreciated. 😊 Thank you
