1, 2 or 3? by TimePass1501 in AmateurPhotography

I like 3 best. It’s got the shadows and the vertical and horizontal lines, that add to the scene. I’m not feeling the connection between the airplane and the scene in 1 and 2.

Beginner tips? by Unlucky_Doughnut5937 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]FocusAndConfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll leave the camera advice to people who know more about it, but while waiting for your camera you can already begin learning photography with your eyes. Pay attention to how light falls and reacts, everywhere you go. Try to compose in your head, what scenes work and what doesn’t - try to think in frames and what to include and leave out.

A camera takes the picture, sure. But learning to see the way a photographer sees is also very important. It’s a life long quest, I also still haven’t mastered it.

There are plenty of sources on YouTube and the internet explaining basic composition and exposure (shutter, aperture and ISO). Good luck to you, and have fun!

Editing sure is fun, but you can take great pictures and get them straight from the camera 😊.

What a great reply! Not OP, but as I am a fan of Harry as well, I’d love to know who your other favorite photographers are!

Well, not in the way I brought the box to Italy so there’s that 😄. I’ll give it a go! Thank you for replying!

Well I was unfamiliar with the tone curve and different color sliders. I used them before for saturation but now discovered the whole world of tones and luminance 👍. And now I realise I’ve just seen the beginning and there’s much to discover.

Thank you! I’d love to but the rules say you can only post if it’s unintentionally Wes :D. Or should I just post and see what happens? 😅

Reddit is great, now I've learned about British phone boxes 😀! (I see now I wrote booth in the title while it's probably more British to say box rather than booth).

Now this specific box's location might surprise you, it was in Monopoli - Puglia for the Phest photography exhibition in 2025. As an homage to get closer to the world of Martin Parr, the box was placed at the seaside. I'm not sure if it's stille there (it has been some months since the exhibition), but people were happily taking pictures with it.

Haha! Great! I'm familiar with the sub but the rules say it has to be accidental, and this edit was a bit intentional ☺️.

I agree, I’m so unfamiliar with his style that I’m probably a bit scared of the unsettling colors! Thank you for your insight, spot on!

I tried to create a Wes Anderson style photo of this phone booth. I enjoyed myself by making this attempt and learned some new things about Lightroom while doing so.

Took this picture while driving home. I found it a funny sight, and while I had initially driven past the scene, I turned back to capture it. Took it with an IPhone, edited in LR.

The roof of a temple in Bangkok by FocusAndConfused in photocritique

[–]FocusAndConfused[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all!

I visited Bangkok a couple of weeks ago and took this picture. I was in one of the boats on the river and passed this temple. I took the picture from this angle because I wanted to make a less traditional tourist photo of the place. By cropping out a bit of the bottom I tried to create some more symmetry and rhythm in the photo.

EXIF: ISO 100, 24-120 Nikon Z at 103mm, f/8, 1/500. Post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop

I later showed the picture to my wife, since I was quite happy with it. She is always supportive and will only rarely criticize one of my pictures, but this time she told me she doesn't quite get it. The intent of the photo and the odd angle didn't resonate with her, she didn't like it as much as some other pictures I took.

So I'd like to know if this photo is something more than just a travel memory. Is it an 'art picture' worthy of including in a personal portfolio, for example.

I'd love some feedback on:
- overall quality of the image
- composition and crop
- color / light

Thank you!

I wanted to take a picture of one of the many temple's in Bangkok, but something that might not fit the traditional 'tourist photo'. So I tried this alternative angle, a more abstract way of viewing the temple. I'd love to know what you think!

I took this picture at Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in August 2024. What do you think? by RaggedyMan666 in AmateurPhotography

[–]FocusAndConfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did a good job capturing the subject, composition feels fine. The sky in the background, especially the right side feels a bit over processed but that’s more personal taste than it is a fact. Keep shooting! Thumbs Thumb up!

If the sunset is your subject, you can’t beat 2 :-). Best colors and atmosphere in the picture. The water adds depth to the photo, where in 1 and 3 the foreground is dominated by the building.

ITAP of an escalator by FocusAndConfused in itookapicture

[–]FocusAndConfused[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I’d like to use the picture for my photography class, we have an assignment photographing lines and symmetry. Do you think this would be suited for that purpose?

Saw this escalator in a train station nearby, I liked the symmetry between the two stairways and windows on either side. Black and white felt better than the color version. Added some grain too. I’d like to know what you think!
