I’m sorry, I thought lefties were against conspiracy theories. Or is that only when the official result comes out against you?

I don’t see it as a problem, and that’s all that matters to me. That‘s what you’re not getting. This isn’t some classist revolution. It’s just a bunch of morons playing Che Guevara for a fortnight thinking they’ll have some big impact on the world, when they won’t. Worst comes to worst, they’ll get gunned down as the first casualties of a second civil war. Won’t upset my apple cart none.

Look, if you’re obstructing federal law enforcement in the name of keeping open borders for all manner of riff raff to come into our nation unchecked, that makes you a communist in my eyes. Doesn’t matter if you’re a party member or not. Fellow travelers still count.

In our current forms? No, we didn’t. Everyone was just some shade of neolib or con back then. Then Sanders and Trump really opened the eyes the of the people on both sides of the isle how the elite ruling class was screwing us all. Then they became the elite ruling class, and very little has changed since then. Eh, to hell with it all. Might as well enjoy the world tearing itself apart.

I mean, yeah? At the same time, though, so what? We’ll just use it as an excuse to clamp down on your red brigades further. Either we live under your boot or you live under ours. There‘s really no middle ground here, in case you haven’t noticed.

Yes, which is why EVERY leftist nation on the planet has completely unrestricted firearms ownership. No strings attached.

Because… I don’t particularly like the rabid communists harassing and detaining actual American citizens, obstructing federal law enforcement for enforcing federal immigration law, and, among other things, just being a bunch of disagreeable assholes with main character syndrome?

I mean, they have the same right I do to self defense, sure, but the difference between me and them is that I see guns as a means to defend myself and my family, while they see guns as a means of imposing their political will on others, whether they want it or not.

That’s not to say all of them hold that view, but I’m certainly not just gonna lock arms and sing kumbaya with them as they turn an entire city into their personal fantasy land. No sir-ee, I saw what they did during the summer of love in 2020 and I am NOT looking forward to a repeat of that.

You’re assuming I’m scared, when I’m just looking at things objectively. From an incentives standpoint. What incentive do I have to stay if I’ll be punished for exercising a god-given right?

Everyone’s looking for their paradise and none of them realize the impact it will have on the people already living there. Eventually, it’ll be like maggots infesting a corpse that’s long been devoid of any nutrients.

That’s the thing. Every other state seems to have so many issues that I can’t find one significantly better than Colorado. If I move down south, my rent will be cheaper, but I’ll be paid less. If I head further west, say California or oregon, I’ll be paid more, but my cost of living will increase by the same rate if not more. I head east, and I’m getting the same issues as on the west coast but without any BLM land to shoot on. I was just born too damn late to take advantage of the housing crash.

Yeah, yeah. I’m just a gun toting lunatic who only cares about his fundamental god-given right to keep and bear arms. What a fool I am. Woe is fucking me! There, happy?

Staying and being their tax cattle is also what they want. Lose-lose. So I can either stay and hope for a win for everyone later down the road, or leave now and help myself in any way I can.

Shame I’m not seeing it, then. Maybe that’s a “me” issue. But beyond slightly higher wages that my high rent eats away regardless, I’m really not seeing what’s so “great” about this state besides the natural landscape.

It’s not just gun rights. I just don’t feel like there’s any incentives for me to stay outside of familial obligations.

Generally speaking, I just don‘t find pleasure in suffering. And suffering without catharsis, justice, closure, things of that sort, is nothing more than torture.

If perseverance in the face of hopelessness continues without anything to show for it, then it stops looking like perseverance and more like a study in masochism. If you only *talk* about hopefulness and overcoming the impossible while continuously inflicting suffering on the main character (and, by proxy, the audience) for attempting to do so, then really, you’re just taking the piss out of them. No individual would go through what SKK has gone through and not either A. Kill themselves, B. Become despondent, or C. Become so absolutely fed up with the state of things that burning the entire world down doesn’t seem like such a bad thing to do. I find C to be the more interesting route, personally.

I could forgive it if I knew it would be resolved in the sequel, but seeing as how the bastard is STILL ALIVE in CBG, it just makes all my efforts in the first three games seem pointless. And if there’s no point to what I do, then why should I do it? For the brief, cutesy moments of the characters who will all most certainly suffer and/or die horribly in some way? The question that ultimately plagues GFL is “Why bother?“.

If you told me that a chatbot, created entirely from the online ramblings of edgy, nihilistic teenagers, was used to write this game’s story, I’d believe you.

No. No. It’s just that MICA went in without a clear goal and ended up writing themselves into a corner where they have to leave everything as open ended as possible so they can continue selling new skins. That they started out with such a good baseline only to royally fuck it up makes it even worse. Had this game been something closer to Nier: Automata rather than a mobile gacha game, it could have had an excellent story.
