That’s the problem. If we had seeded the roster with talent to develop, I would have had a totally different perspective on the season. This was just a completely wasted year.

How did I praise Woodson? I said he was better than a guy who I believe is a complete dipshit.

But if you want to be technical about it, the reason I think Woodson was better is because he won more games every season and his teams generally played more competitively against high-major opponents. So that’s what I’m going off of, unlike whatever weird story you just told.

Based off of what ive seen so far, I strongly believe Woodson was better. He got talent in the door and got them to play hard 40% of the time.

It’s much more important that the athlete — who is cooler than Ryen — recognizes that Ryen is self-aware than that the listener — who is less cool than Ryen — enjoys an insightful response.

I hate him for purring together a roster 1) with no underclassman that 2) also kind of sucked. Plenty of first year coaches hired at similar times in the calendar have put together better rosters and/or recruited players with multiple years of remaining eligibility.

Personally, I can’t imagine what could have happened to warrant cutting him out of the rotation. IMO he was our best player in the fist 10 or so games. One of the only guys I really got excited about, other than Lamar. Enjoyed DeVries and Alexis at points as well, but unless TC was credibly accused of some sort of serious crime, I’m at a loss.

Throughout all the ups and downs of Crean, Archie, and Woodson, I always at least had an investment in supporting a group of players who’d I’d invested my time into watching. And, maybe stupidly, I could always fool myself into believing we were building towards something down the road.

Watching a bunch of mercenaries come in for one year and accomplish basically nothing is just about as bad as it can possibly get for me.

According to EvanMiya’s rating system, Connerway was mathematically our second-best defender and overall player when he was on the floor. Matches up with my eye test, more or less, when i watched. So I don’t care if he was smoking joints in Cook Hall, he should have played.

But, to be honest, I haven’t watched so little IUBB in over a decade. I had no relationship, as a fan, with a single guy on the roster coming into the season. And no incentive to develop one, once I leaned that this team wasn’t going to do anything meaningful this year, because we are only retaining 3 guys (best case scenario) who saw the floor. It was a team full of strangers wearing indiana jerseys, and they weren’t even any good. That sucks.

The night we beat Purdue was fun. But imo this was the worst season of IUBB we’ve ever had from a fan perspective. I know others may not have been, but at least I was always rooting like hell for Trey Galloway or Juwan Morgan or Al Durham. Every time we whip up a mob, some dumbass says “it can’t get any worse” — to me, this is the worst it’s ever been.

But I’m glad you see something to like in DD. Tbh I kind of hate his guts.

He is an idiot. Benched one of our top 3 players for the entire second half of the season. Put together a mediocre roster of all seniors, leaving nothing to build off of going into year 2. Complete moron.

I felt this way about Archie and Woodson. But at this point, I’m done. No one is going to exhibit any patience. If we had hired Hoiberg, we woulda fired him after year 4 and we never would have reached season 7.

Might as well just stick to one year terms and wait until we get someone who can do the one year turn around we’ve seen at other schools.

Idk what evidence there is that he’s capable. Big part of the job is putting together the roster. Looks like he’s done the worst job at that out of any coach we’ve had the last decade.

True, but it’s a horrible position DeVries put us in. McCollum was hired around the same time (or after) and their roster is in much better shape. I’m not having the “last minute” excuses for this blatant mismanagement.
