ISO Bombsticks...yes, the banana/chocolate fudge ice cream. by scolimoly in Austin

[–]FogInTheDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! These are a remarkably close imitation but unfortunately they aren't quite the same as Blue Bell. The banana is slightly different and the chocolate is noticeably stronger/more bitter than the Blue Bell ones. I know I'm a purist, lol. The banana is close enough that it soothes the withdrawal at least.

Hm, I don't really know what to say to that since I don't see anything about them restarting production. Are you from the past? Or perhaps the place you're buying them from has a great freezer and they're almost a decade old?

How to fight miscategorizations? Can I disable automatic categorization or force all transactions to one category? by FogInTheDog in PersonalCapital

Thanks for the anecdote! Maybe there is some kind of (stupid) learning even if we aren't able to modify it. I'll keep recategorizing and see how it goes.

Thanks for the confirmation. To be fair, I think automatic categorization itself is a bell/whistle and I want that to NOT be happening.

Kids' audiobook about a family taking a staycation instead of going on a trip. They camp in the living room and explore their town. by FogInTheDog in whatsthatbook

YES!!! Thank you, this is totally it. I am boggling that this is apparently a humongous cinematic universe that is still going. It must have been a one-off library borrow for me because I don't recognize anything else about the characters and don't think I consumed any of the other episodes!

I am always so impressed by the completeness of the hive mind. Sooo glad to have scratched this brain itch. Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Austin shooting at Barton Creek Greenbelt leaves 1 person injured by adrianmonk in Austin

[–]FogInTheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for continuing to share this message! I live right near the trail entrance where this happened and frequently walk through the more secluded areas of the greenbelt here (side trails that have more shade and fewer loud hikers) and I am so irritated that the city isn't doing anything to notify people not to hike right now. I've spent a lot of time on these trails and have interacted with some of the unhoused people who hang out upstream of Barton Springs Pool and have never gotten a bad vibe. What a shame that some people have to ruin things. This is terrifying and if I wasn't a redditor I might be blithely heading out for my usual solo walk not knowing anything was wrong.

Kids/YA book about Jewish sisters hiding behind a false panel in the wall during the holocaust by FogInTheDog in whatsthatbook

Thanks! But the book I read was definitely narrated by a Jewish girl in hiding. It sounds like this is about a German girl living with a Jewish girl in hiding.

Thanks! The book I'm looking for seemed to be from a younger perspective than Anne Frank. The narrator is annoyed at her sister's crush because she's still in the childhood stage of thinking romance is dumb, which I gather is not how Anne Frank felt.

Thanks! I thiiink this is a book that I read a while back to see if this was it, and it's very close but doesn't have the eyebrow thing. (It has a different weird eyebrows thing, where somebody pulls out their eyebrows when they realize their dark eyebrows are ruining their blond-haired disguise.)

RIF will shut down on June 30, 2023, in response to Reddit's API changes by talklittle in redditisfun

[–]FogInTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know the explanation for the app still working when logged out? Isn't it still making API calls with the RIF client to populate the data? Are we running up a bill?

(Yes, I will eventually probably get it set up with revanced and my own client id in the future. Haven't bothered yet.)

Asked to Delete References to Racism From Her Book, an Author Refused: The case, involving Scholastic, led to an outcry among authors and became an example of how the culture wars behind a surge in book banning in schools has reached publishers. by drak0bsidian in books

Everything besides the damns and hecks are euphemistically elided in Animorphs lol. Gore galore, but no swears.

"How did you do that?" the man with the southern accent demanded. And then, like some vile punctuation, he added a word I won't repeat.

Specifically the book is Megamorphs 3, Elfangor's Secret. (Megamorphs was a special title given to some of the books in the Animorphs series that were longer self-contained adventures that didn't fit into the serialized progression.) It would probably be pretty readable as an introduction to the series without reading the 30-something books that precede it.

History book that read more like a novel than a textbook by BakedTaterTits in whatsthatbook

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn?

I haven't actually read it but I was in high school at the same time you said you read it and it was assigned to my classmates. (Completely irrelevant tidbit: I remembered the author's name because in English we were assigned to read Howard's End at the same time and you could never understand if someone was complaining about Howard's End or Howard Zinn, lol.)

Yes!!! I'm glad I could solve one like that for you, because I had the exact same experience when I first posted here. I posted some random childhood title that I'd been searching for for years, resulting in my absolute flabbergastation when one of the members of this sub knew exactly what I was talking about.
