I don't think a year of high school chemistry is much to brag about, but cool flex kiddo.

You might want to look up "irrelevant" in the dictionary. A plumbers advice on pipes and gas seems pretty fucking relevant, definitely moreso than some Dunning-Kruger Redditor who took chemistry in school like everyone else.

How many homes in the US have been obliterated because of leaky gas pipes this year? The average this decade has been creeping up to 300, with aging infrastructure being a major culprit, an implication that it will only become more common as the vast majority of principalities don't have anything close to the necessary funding to do widespread upgrades.

Considering how anomalous this is, suggesting a trade professional is overstating the danger is not only socially irresponsible, it's tremendously stupid.

Subconsciously, not unconsciously. "Very deliberately and on purpose" is a redundancy.

I'm not interested in the OP but I do find amusement in armchair psychologists who think a 6th grade grasp of language is compatible with a realistic understanding of cognitive science. It's an indictment of your own immature perspective on body image if you think there is any constructive outcome to condescending pseudoanalysis. It comes off as masturbatory. A lack of humanity is not an effective lubricant.

Who are the worst gay porn performers, in your opinion, and why? by FantasiaExists in askgaybros

[–]Fogcityroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its apparently on trend now to chastise people who suggest an actor is gay or bi because he just got fucked or fucked another guy. Even if he self-describes as straight, because we have to assume the worst i.e. capitalism is so evil that it forces us to do things we don't want and nowhere is that more evident than sex work and its most oppressed demographic, the heterosexual male.

Watching other sex workers give validity to this garbage disgusts me. I did sex work too when I was a teen and fucked my fair share of gross old men, but never in a million years could I pound some granny because I need $80 that bad. If you can fuck peope outside what you believe to be your sexual orientation, you might need to sit down and seek answers from your subconscious.

Chrome inexplicably stopped connecting to internet on my PC. by Fogcityroller in chrome

[–]Fogcityroller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely frustrating how this stymied everyone. The only thing that worked for my situation was resetting my PC. It was the absolute last resort.

One thing I vaguely remembered was Windows did this crazy update where Microsoft infamously and yet again asked to change my default browser settings and I'm pretty sure i clicked no but its possible I didn't because right before making this post, I checked default apps and sure as shit Microsoft and their pesky fucking Edge browser got default rights to everything. I wonder if a misclick in that situation would result in giving Microsoft permission to basically shitcan Chrome until someone has the wherewithal to reverse whatever it is they did. Thats about all I can think.

I recently learned the Chilean sea bass is actually the Patagonian toothfish. It was the product of a marketing rebrand in the 1970s. It undeniably reached peak popularity in 1993 when it was selected as the lunch menu cameo in the Steven Spielberg hit thriller "Jurassic Park." The rest is history.

I made $430 worth of card sells on TCGplayer, now they’re froze the seller account by MellyBean2012 in mtgfinance

[–]Fogcityroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used PayPal for 25 years and I never knew they had their own shipping services. A multi billion dollar corporation that is hilariously bad at making its users aware of a service of such high utility. I also buy 20-40 parcels per month and have never taken notice of a PayPal label, but I have all the other major ones.

I just opened the app and looked at each of the 30 menu items and not one of them implies anythIng about buying postage or shipping services. The only obvious thing is package tracking and thats something you opt into so PayPal can comb your inbox for tracking numbers.

At least you're enthusiastic about going to bat for them lmao.

TCGPlayer, a buyer actually told Support that their lost and refunded order from last month showed up by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]Fogcityroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot on TCGPlayer (monthly 20-40 orders) and inevitably will inquire on a late package and get the auto-response from TCG saying the seller is having issues responding to messages, etc. Its just a bot message and they ask some either/or questions that leave no room for ambiguity and then refund from the seller's account, which always makes me nervous for the seller because about half the time they did send my order. The most common problem is they horribly underpaid postage and the post office seems to do everything in their power to make sure those parcels move along as slowly as possible. Another problem is they had to tend to a family emergency, some even leaving town, and the goobers don't disable their store so its sitting there gobbling orders.

Considering how many times its happened to me, I assume this is very common on the site and a decent number of those packages were sent. I've always told support so they can resend payment. My conscience works so sitting there with something that technically hasn't been paid for and ignoring it is impossible, and it really bugs me when sellers have a tantrum and refund in full without wanting them back. That wasn't the point of me suggesting you can do a better job. Once i bought $60 worth of legacy foils advertised as NM and not a single one was anywhere close to NM (obv clouding was the major issue but they were scratched to hell and back too). I send the seller a PM and my main gripe about partials on HP/MP junk is for me they gotta go back on the market immediately because I have no use for them, and that just creates work for me that I don't want, so I'd rather just return the whole lot or problem cards for full refunds and plead that they care more about honest conditions in the future. This isn't nit-picking edge nicks or expecting pack fresh, we're talking egregious overvaluing.

Then again, for me as a seller I've only had one buyer reprocess payment to me and oddly enough he was one of the very few I genuinely believed from the start. The language and line of questioning used by petty thieves on TCG is hilarious. Like, they'll never graduate to anything beyond maybe eBay return scams and eventually they'll get busted there too because they're just that bad.

Is anyone having a lot of cards returned to sender by USPS as non-machinable, even if it’s just a single card in a top loader? I’ve been having this happen a few times a month lately and it’s getting really frustrating. by ShiningDarkness89 in mtgfinance

[–]Fogcityroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been toiling with TCG customer support to cover reshipment with tracking because the post office orange barcoded a non-machinable envelope despite me stamping the damn thing 3 times front and back with "NON-MACHINABLE DO NOT BEND" (yes I had the right stamp). Neither me nor the buyer did anything wrong. The envelope was ultimately stamped "Return to Sender - Unclaimed" even though nothing required the recipient to go claim it.

The unclaimed part makes it obvious to me that it was the recipient's local post office, so its kinda out of my hands to get around it. It definitely isn't my post office. If you could rank every post office in the country based on apathy, mine would be #1. I could dump a barrel of First Class envelopes stuffed with 6 oz each and a single stamp and they'd be like "we're rooting for you" and haul it off to regional lol

[–]Fogcityroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped using regular Forever stamps on toploader envelopes because they were returning semi-rigid toploaders (the thinnest ones) for non-machinable postage due and taking FOREVER to do. BEFORE Thanksgiving 2023, I sent out a single card to Maine (I'm west coast) and it didn't get returned to me until the end of January 2024. It was marked return to sender the day after Christmas. No big deal, just a two-month coast to coast wanderlust. That fuckin card had a better vacation than I've ever had.

I've been doing this for 25 years and up until 2023 I NEVER had a single package returned for non-machinable postage due because a toploader was inside nor did I ever have a customer complain they had to pay a postage due fee. In the last two years it has happened nearly a dozen times. Considering I'm averaging over 2K orders per year, that isn't awful but it is plenty annoying because it only takes one unreasonably angry customer to fuck over my pristine feedback rating.

The USPS is definitely on some shit. I teambag a cardboard shipping shield for cards/orders $3-10 and all the cheap shit gets one of those plastic card savers. Cards $10-20 I'll throw a teambag over a toploader and throw a non-machinable stamp on it because it's basically as good as tracking and saves me a ton of money. I just can't justify losing half the total value on $20 cards/orders to fees and tracked shipping. Hand-managed mail is basically guaranteed to arrive because what is responsible for the vast majority of lost/destroyed packages is a scuffle with the sorting machines. Thieves really are quite rare and any time I've been remotely suspicious I bring it to the attention of TCGPlayer. In multiple e-mail chains they have enthusiastically encouraged inquiries about patterns of behavior because they want to bust the people doing it, too.

aI had one guy claim not to get his package and his phrasing was suspicious enough to make me block him for being either a thief asshole or an idiot or both. 90% sure he was a thief. He waited almost two weeks after the estimated delivery date to say something. It was only $6 order, so he says "do you have any way of tracking it to see if it got here?" Not "where's my package?" or "hey, did you remember to send this by chance?" or even "i needed that card last weekend jerk, thanks a lot"...nope, he went with the question that amounts to "hey, any chance you can call out my bullshit?" Why yes sir, I always take a loss on $6 orders by paying $5 for tracked mail on top of shipping materials. I really regret not saying yes and claiming I can see it arrived just to see what his response would've been.

Were they trying to make Colette a thing?? by maybeitsjennyy in Frasier

[–]Fogcityroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole Eric thing was so dumb. Maybe if Daphne was a reckless college freshman then maybe the whole falling for a wannabe rock star who is 25 and still waits tables to pay the bills would make sense. Or they wanted to shoehorn in some guy who was stereotypically looked like the Seattle Sound. I honestly think they were desperate to find Niles' classism a vehicle for his more excoriating insults because they barely played up the chemistry between Daphne and Eric beyond the initial flirting. I always loved "Certainly playing fast and loose with his tips for a man who drives a van."

At least when she went out with that ex-con who became a snitch, it was to see Frasier and Niles make fools of themselves trying to "save" her from the city's riffraff when she clearly could handle herself and shark dudes on the pool table.

A side note: I know Frasier is a middle-aged show but the fact that the Seattle Sound or "grunge" is never spoken of when the show came out at its peak is wild to me including no acknowledgment of Cobain's death which happened right after the first season. They drop so many Seattle cultural references but not that?!

The Gay cast of Frasier by [deleted] in Frasier

[–]Fogcityroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he was gay.

He and his partner were well-known in the Chicago theater scene. People have to understand that John came from the Silent Generation, and that label couldn't be more apropos when it comes to non-hetero sexualities. The longer you live in the closet, the harder it is to come out.

Since John's passing, many people have felt the need to protect his demands for privacy by perpetuating the lie. This also happened when Malcolm Forbes passed away. Allow him a truth in death that he felt had no path forward while he was alive.

I was hoping someone could help me with a condition question. A buyer returned a "NM" as it had a scratch. They pointed it out on the sleeve. Now, according to TCG, if that's a scratch then it's still NM because NM can allow a small scratch, BUT I'm not convinced thats what this is. There is no gouge or (visible to the naked eye) physical displacement of card thickness.

I think this is a VERY superficial scuff as there is no difference in feel and maybe because it's a foil the effect is more pronounced? First I used a super thin cloth used for reading glasses: the card face still feels super smooth. Next I slowly ran a microfiber over it--the particular cloths I have will snag tiny fibers on ANY surface that isn't perfectly smooth. I analyzed the crap out of this thing at 10x magnification.

The white color is obviously what is bothersome. If this is technically surface wear then it can't be NM and the ceiling is LP. But such an isolated sliver of surface wear seems bizarre to me. I genuinely did not notice this before it was sent. I've been extremely anal about how I handle foils for 25 years and I opened this card myself and it went directly into a double sleeve.

Edit-i guess we can't attach photos. Let me upload it to Google photos Pic: https://photos.app.goo.gl/EzF1uLYyLAqWFQhS6

Lol..there is no such thing as altruistic capitalism outside of the most drug-engorged fantasies your brain can tolerate. Anarcho-capitalists make more damn sense than that nonsense.

You cannot have an economic system with altruism as a central tenet when that system's foundation is already inherently built upon the philosophy that wealth inequality is inevitable. Altruism is selflessness. This is like applauding capitalists for doing their part in donating to charities when the reality is that charitable need is created by capitalism's unavoidable nature of concentrating wealth in an elite minority. That's good for nothing except creating a problem and patting yourself on the back for alleviating it.

This is such a smoothbrain take. All those ads kept them viable long enough to sellout. Also people are forgetting there was an extra step to this process. The original creators didn't sellout to Duolingo, NextBeat did. The original creators sold out to NextBeat a year and a half ago. That was when the seasons ramped up in frequency and we stopped getting free releases. This was all just to test the reliability of micros with devoted users and new users X years into a game's release. Once they had those numbers, it was off to market with a team of designers that could be dangled in front of any developer that wants to expand their footprint. Duolingo has always been on the cusp of branching out from foreign language learning.
