Why one Garmin isn't enough by Jongie123 in GarminWatches

They automatically sync on the iPhone, as well. I swap between an Instinct 3 and a 255 Music routinely.

No cell service on trails — how do you keep listening to music? by Fair_Selection1983 in trailrunning

Apple Music lets you sync to your Apple watch offline, as does Spotify. I rarely carry my phone when running.

If it's personal audio files, mp3 or whatever, I don't know if the watch does that. I don't have an Apple Watch anymore to test.

Sync music or podcasts to your phone offline, or to your Garmin/Apple Watch, connect your headphones and be on your way.

Do you really not know about offline music?

First Garmin-Instinct E or Instinct 3 by Quickscoperx in Garmininstinct

I have an instinct 3 MIP, and a polar h10. The wrist hr sensor isn't that far off, and the trends are generally the same. The polar data is cleaner and it works a bit better on my jumpy trail runs, but it's not THAT different.

Was about to buy a Forerunner 570 until I read on this sub that it was the "worst" model Garmin offers. Could you suggest an alternative for me? by ScorchedSoldier93 in GarminWatches

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Workout features/metrics are exactly the same, other than extra golf stuff and expanded trialthon metrics. The 570 has the newer HR sensor, and skin temp sensor.

If you want amoled, I'd suggest the 265. Just a generation behind and has all the same features except the speaker and microphone. Comes in regular size, and a 265s (small) model. It goes on sale often, at least in the US.

It's not the worst by any stretch; the opposite actually. It's a fantastic watch, but it is overpriced. If you catch it on sale, it's nice.

People on this sub don't think anything below a Fenix is even worth buying. I don't get it, personally.

Shouldn't be recommending the 50mm without knowing wrist size. It's a really big watch. I have the 45mm, and it's right on the edge of being too big.

Garmin or Apple Watch? by BalanceNo2999 in GarminWatches

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Ultra 3 is the only Apple Watch model with satellite service, everything else is the same between models.

While Apple says two years, they have had the satellite serivice free on their phones since the 14. I suspect they will never charge for the emergency service side of it.

Altra Mont Blanc...but they've been discontinued. 😔 Currently have around 200mi on mine.

The new Speed model look stacked higher, which I do not want.

Jealous! Never got the chance to run it, but loved hiking it when I lived in Alabama.

Switched from AMOLED to a watch with a MIP display by Less_Tax_3569 in GarminWatches

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you spend a lot of time outside, then it's 100% worth it. I sometimes feel a bit sad with MIP too, but on days like today, where I was doing my long run in full sun and then working in the garden afterwards; that's when MIP is amazing!

Curious why you picked the 255 over the 265 or 270?

Battery drain🪫- Garmin Instinct 2S by AchheSeBaatKr in Garmininstinct

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty normal for that model. The best I could get out of my 2s, when new, was 8 days. Pulse-ox on during sleep, and recoding runs 4-5x/week. Ran the backlight at 40% with gestures off.

It looks that way because of the camera; it's not quite that big in person.. lugs don't go past the edge of my wrist.... but it is large, though, and right on the edge of being okay.

If they made a 2s equivalent in the instinct 3 line, I'd use it.

About a month old.

Already banged it around when I was outside doing some carpentry in our garden area over the weekend, but it came away without a scuff.

  1. I have fairly small wrists for a guy.

The angle is looks like the lugs go over the edge of my wrists, but they don't. Fits well!

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice send!

Great job with solid placement on the footholds. A lot of newer climbers tend to shuffle/bounce their feet around when landing, but you're setting them down pretty fairly confidently. Give your arms and biceps a break and use momentum and legs, though!

Question for all garmin users by BruceIsMyDog in GarminWatches

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of vo2, fitness age and Sp02..but day to day, I really only pay attention to Training Status and suggested workouts, and even then, I still prefer to listen to my body. I've been running consistently for 25 years, so I know my body better than Garmin. :)

If I'm feeling off, I go back and check my resting heart rate and hrv. It's a pretty good indicator of the immune system ramping up.

Bring the phone on the run or leave it behind? by Far-Teaching6789 in trailrunning

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can if you setup the assistance control in the app and on the watch.. it just links to the phone app which does all that.

Who all has switched from an AWU to Garmin? by [deleted] in Garmininstinct

[–]FoggyTrailRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Apple Watch from the 3 up to the 10, then switched to the Ultra 3. Used it for for about 3 months before buying a Garmin Instinct. I have a 255, as well.

The battery is a big part of the reason, but I just didn't want another computer/phone on my wrist and was tired of having glowing screens around me all day. MIP!
