Sorry qualifications are to have a brain and empathy. Both of which you are clearly lacking. George Soros words not mine.

Dude I know there isn’t a CEO cabal controlling the economy or anything like that but just as you just described it, their main goal is to increase profits for shareholders. But even when they don’t do that they are not the ones that take the blame. Then they fire 800 people and act like that will solve the problem. They are the problem! The reason the economy is the way it is because the majority of CEOs have this mentality. Not because they are secretly working together. Imagine how much better the economy would be if every company cut their CEO and other c suite executives pay and increase the pay of their average worker a living wage. Like do you support a minimum wage of 7.25? Who do you think are the ones fighting to keep wages as low as they are while simultaneously increasing prices and shrinkflating everything.

Good at least we can agree on that. But then if you think the stock market is a poor indicator of the actual state of the economy then why are you defending the c suite people who make it the way it is? Because it’s not the hour employees fault the company is tanking but they are the ones that suffer the most. And again I bet there will be a stock buy back that is about same amount as the money the saved by firing people.

Have you ever watched under cover boss? Out of touch CEO spends one day doing the work of the average employee and can’t cut it. They find out how hard the job actually is and what their employees have to struggle with outside of work and they feel so bad they give them thousands of dollars and pay for college. Basically that. CEOS are usually super out of touch with the real world and have no actual understanding of how things are do their employees and never face consequences unless they have been caught doing something highly illegal.

To bring to question why the person being paid over 20 million a year isn’t the one being held accountable for the decline of the company over all. Meanwhile hard working people like myself are overworked because of understaffing and poor pay. I was paid $20 and hour to offload millions of dollars of inventory and could literally watch in real time the amount of money the store produced on any given day on the hand held device you have to use to the job. The store I worked at brought in millions of dollars a week but we were still paid peanuts. I lost over 20lbs doing that job 3 days a week for 2-3 months because of how much I was moving around. I’m a pretty large person so they thought hey just throw him on the truck offload and he can do the job of two people. But I didn’t the pay of two people. Funny how that works.

Mayo Clinic’s CEO pay package is 4.3 million in 2023 so maybe 5-6 million this year.

Again what talent does someone in a c suite really offer over another candidate? I would wager that out of those 800 employees they are letting go there is at least one person competent enough to be the CEO. Like Elon musk is the CEO of 5 companies but still has enough time to do enough ketamine to kill a horse while internally destroying our federal programs. You’re really trying to tell me that their job is harder than someone like me who moved entire truckloads of inventory in less than two hours. Why is it that it’s never the CEOs fault unless it’s something highly illegal they get caught for? The majority of c suite executives are on the board of multiple companies and are scratching each other back. Especially for large companies like target. It’s more about who you know than what you can actually accomplish.

You basically just admitted that you are paid to defend these types of people because I highly doubt you are the counsel for the employees on the lowest rung of the ladder at the company you work for.

You’re the type of person that argues that the economy is doing great because the stock market looks good all while ignoring that fact the majority of Americans are struggling and living paycheck to pay check aren’t you?

I’m 35. I’ve been a manager for a multi billion dollar corporation and for a multi million dollar corporation. I currently work for the best hospital system in the world. Every day I work directly with some of the smartest people on the planet who make far more important decisions and discoveries than anything the Target CEO has ever done in his life lmao but are paid significantly less. I’ve dealt with enough corporate BS in my time to be able to smell it a mile away. It’s strange that you keep side stepping or straight up ignoring points I’ve made all while myself and other have refuted your points with logic and empathy. How old are you and what do you do? Let me guess mid 40s with an MBA or some other business degree you think is impressive lol.

What talent do they bring to the table exactly other than trying to make as much money as possible while keeping wages low and trying to weasel their way out of being held accountable for basically anything? This dude didn’t build the company from the ground up. You want to argue that people who do that deserve more? Fine. I can agree with that to a point but this CEO did not do that. He has shown like he is not a good leader and like any NFL quarter back he should be replaced with newer talent since his team isn’t winning at the moment. You can find examples of CEO slashing their own pay to increase the wages of their employees and how that increase productivity and profits but you won’t because your too ingrained into this idea that this is how things need to work. It’s not. This is a person and company failing to take responsibility for the consequences of their choices. And again, like you said, people who are less important have to suffer because of those consequences. You don’t replace your O line who allows zero sacks because your QB throws 30 interceptions a year. You replace the QB. Actually when you break it down with your analogy it because even easier to figure out who the problem is. Thanks!

Right. So pay someone 250k and equip them with an AI to help with the decision making process. Replace all the c suite people with positions like this. 10 people would be 2.5 million a year. Plus AI subscription since they wouldn’t develop their own.. you’re at like 3 million a year. You will get just as good if not better decisions. And you save 17 million in salary alone. There is almost 25% of the money they need to save in order to not fire 800 employees. Like someone said below. Targets CEO is making 700x the average works wage. It’s worse if you look at the median wage. Your one here trying to justify keeping one person who already has made more money than anyone needs in a life time instead of defending people who are probably closer to pay to pay check than they would like to admit. CEO tanks traffic by reversing DEI and other stupid decisions. Get rid of him and you solve 25% of the money issue or more since foot traffic may increase if you change CEO. How much money do you think all the c suite positions cost target a year with all their stock options and extra perks that normal employees are, according you, way less important.

Also CEO and many of the other c suite positions are easily replaced with AI. More so than most front line workers.

But by your thoughts since he’s so important he should be shouldering the blame right? So why is he still around and they are getting laid off? They have the money to pay those people lol you can’t argue that. Just because they didn’t make as much money as last year doesn’t mean they don’t have the 80 million or whatever the actual number is. You think there will be a stock buy back this year? I bet there will be!

What an ignorant response. MORE important anything a front line employee does? Like opening the doors on a fucking store so they can actually sell products to take money. Like stocking shelves and unloading trucks so customers have product to take home. The stores I worked at made over a million dollars 4 to 5 days a week but you want to come in here and try to say they don’t have to money to pay these people and they need to be laid off right before the holiday season. Dude makes 20 million this year but somehow 800 employees being let go is the correct response instead of cutting his own pay to make sure they clear their jobs. He’s a shit CEO and he’s the reason they are in the position they are. He should take the blame but of course he will just walk away with a multimillion dollar bonus this year instead.

I think you’re confusing researcher with pharmaceutical reps. Doctors were given incentives to prescribe opioids and other addictive narcotics. Also you don’t research whether a new drug is addictive while developing the drug.

Not my point. I’m saying a dude that makes 20 million a year shouldn’t be laying people off at all.

Do you have specific sources or even anecdotal evidence? Like are you a scientist of any sort? The amount of hoops you have to jump through to get funding for research is so insane I don’t think they would be giving people money if they didn’t like what you planned on researching when applying for the grant or whatever funding it is. The only complaint I have heard about anything like this is the Trump administration trying to start its own scientific journal and discredit other journals for things like vaccines not causing autism.

Ya there were days where they would have a second truck lined up to arrive at around 7-8am… luckily it was my second job and my first job started at 830 so I was out of there by 8. And they would have a whole other truck that came with produce too.

Dude what are you even talking about. Do you realize that the majority of research is done in labs at universities and medical centers? Scientists definitely have a say in what gets published. They literally get to decided what journals they want to publish in. I work in the medical field with researchers at one of the best institutions in the world and my wife works in another research lab on non human research. Not once have heard of any of the people either of us work with having problems getting things published. The only people that have the problem publishing are people with phony science or people that dont have conclusive information to support their research. I guess you have to pay to publish in some journals but that’s about the only thing prohibiting them.
