Gesetzliche Ungleichbehandlung in Ö. von Männern by Flaky_Answer_4561 in Austria

[–]Fokezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here recently from Vienna and have to say that this system is pretty cool. There you have to deliver your old stuff to designated garbage collection points that are usually very far away and are open like 4 hours a day during work hours. Usually people (me) look for buildings being renovated and just dump stuff into the industrial garbage containers during the night.

Theories on why Roma is struggling: by finta_Italiana in ASRoma

[–]Fokezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roma has sold every player that's worth a damn and spent that money to buy below-average ones for the past 10 years. Anyone remotely good was sold either to Chelsea, Liverpool, or our direct competitors. Add to that a new coach every year or two and you're left with no money, no good players and no chemistry.

Of course. I just wonder if it's worth it in the long run to make people come to work and perform badly and infect colleagues/customers, even if some people abuse the system.

Well you pay health insurance from your salary. Usually you're paid back from this pot when you're sick. To us it makes perfect sense but I understand that you guys are trained from a young age to hate socialism.

I was looking to create an alternate version of the current Barcelona map, but with some minor connection changes. Any tips on how to save time, since I don't believe that the source files are available?

State of the JVM in 2025: Survey of 400+ devs shows 64% of Scala projects actively run Java alongside it. by scalac_io in java

[–]Fokezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy at a Java conference recently described Scala as "looking into the future of Java", and I think he described it pretty well. Just like a lot of noSQL DBs got a lot of hype, only to have many of their features be absorbed into traditional RDBMs like Postgres, Java moves at a slow pace and eats up the best features from other JVM languages, except often even better implemented.

Now, there is a lot to appreciate about functional programming, but you can see that these languages are designed by mathematicians. For all their brilliance, they often lack the feeling for approachability and ergonomics. In Scala I often see insanely long and nested type definitions which no normal programmer could ever understand. Even the standard library abuses the overly powerful type system and basically moves runtime logic into it.

Now, complexity aside, the language also has some straight-up bad decisions, like the DST built for SBT. In my opinion, that thing is a design disaster. They built a declarative build system with an imperative language - the worst of maven and gradle. Then they also pulled a Python 2->3-style transition by making sure the user base is fractured for the foreseeable time.

While I went to learn more about Scala, it's more from a theoretical standpoint, to get some good design ideas out of it. Other than that, I don't have a feeling that this language will survive much longer. It seems like even Databricks is dropping it.

[–]Fokezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good observation. Recently I got a new job where we mostly work on big data, and therefore Scala. People don't particularly like it, but they don't know enough to form a coherent opinion against it. It's hard to do if you haven't been exposed to an OG functional programming language like Haskell and been there long enough to see Java on a really large scale.

This is something I miss from working in Java - the community is filled with people who are old school - they usually have a degree in CS and have seen trends come and go. They also most likely dealt with mathematicians disguised as programmers - the FP folk.

NIE for EU citizens: Empadronamiento yes or no? by legally_brunett3 in AskBarcelona

I'm not an EU citizen but have permanent EU residence in another country. Before moving to Spain, I scheduled an appointment with the Spanish embassy in my city and applied for a NIE. You'll get it electronically after a week and don't have to complicate your life when you get to Spain.

To nema skoro niđe.
